50 books - a challenge

So, after some consideration, I've decided to do another 50 book challenge. This time, however, I am not just doing the 50books-poc challenge. Oh no! Instead I am combining that with the queerlit50 in a giant quest to read books by the marginalised, to support diversity within the publishing industry and, in all honesty, to kick myself into reading books which aren't ( Read more... )

sounds really interesting: how did you find the books you read? is there a list of suggestions or a prescribed 50 anywhere?

There isn't a prescribed 50 anywhere. Basically, I started with 50books-poc which is where I have picked up a lot of recommendations for the 50 books by PoC and I have also found queerlit50 which has got some good suggestions. I've also grabbed stuff from my local library and Waterstones.

I just kinda look around and see what I can find. I have found some really awesome and interesting stuff that way.

Hurrah!
Well, on the queerlit front I have a couple of suggestions. 'Written on the Body' by Jeanette Winterson. It's a love story, but with a narrator of unspecified gender, so how you read it depends on what gender you are imagining as you read. And 'Maurice' by E M Forster.
