And goodness, I am sleepy.
For reasons of mostly not wanting to lose my Sunday to driving back from York,
bringeroflight and I drove back from Shek and Emma's wedding last night. We actually made good time. We left around 10.30 pm, I think and I got home around 2.30 am real time and 1.30 am freshly adjusted time. So, all good, even if my driving was getting a leeetle erratic by the end and I was solely going on Walker's Ready Salted Crisps and Twirl bars, which are my Sally wake up juice off choice when driving very late.
I have to say, I'm really glad I went. I had a bit of a panic in the morning, where I didn't want to go; I was a bit stressed about the drive, unsure who else was going and generally feeling quite run down after a week of work (ummmm...not to mention cyclically hormonal) but I didn't want to let down Shek and Emma and I had offered Tim a lift, and so off I went.
And it was fab.
I even enjoyed the drive up, where Tim and I talked about game, weddings, life, love, polyamory, sex, game, jobs, money, people, gossip and almost everything in between. I'd forgotten how much I love really long two person car journeys. In the Days of Olde I used to say that no one counted as a proper friend until I'd driven from Oxford to Edinburgh with them. These days I've had to compromise on that, but I do find long car journeys to be a very good way of getting to know someone. And then we got there.
The wedding itself was gorgeous. Shek and Emma were both glowing all the way through - I've never seen two people looking so happy. The venue was incredible (and many people now want to be merchant adventurers) and there were lots of people there who I was really happy to see. I also got to meet
raggedhalo's lovely girlfriend, Jackie, who I've heard lots about, so that was also great, and I got to see Joe who I haven't seen in ages, so that was fab.
melenky was also there with a small child. The small child was cute. The small child knew this and had a positive court of people following him around. He will grow to use this power for evil, I am sure.
The wedding reception was also a lot of fun. There was nice food and fab people at the same table as me. I had a very long and very lovely conversation with
hardwired, and a very indiscreet conversation with
faerierhona. And did I mention the food was nice? Special notice must also be made of the best man's speech which was possibly the most astonishing thing I have heard in my life. It included a eulogy for the couple, political commentary, speculation on the groom's sexuality and ended with 'Khaaaaan!'
I was making notes on behalf of
ksirafai for
bringeroflight's wedding, let me tell you!
And then afterwards there was a disco. By this point, I'd got slightly people'd out, so I went for a wander in the grounds, got retrieved, came back and spent the rest of the evening drifting quite satisfactorily. Honestly, I could have stayed much later, but Tim, quite realistically, pointed out that I would lose my ability to drive if I did that. And so we left. And I was very glad that I went.
I'm going back to York next weekend. I'm sure that's unhealthy. I mean, that's a long way from Zone Two. I may die of radiation poisoning.
And now, today, I'm curled on up the sofa, with the intention of starting to tidy in a moment. My goal for today is to sort out the pile of clothes in the living room and then the pile of clothes in my bedroom. This may take some time, but I think I can do it. I also have at least one job app I need to get by the end of today. I shall also think about Fable 3 and mourn my lack of a TV to plug the XboX into. Still, it'll be December soon and then I'll be able to go and play it in Cornwall. For the rest of you, how are you? How is your weekend going?
