A book meme:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
"It would be helpful to my standing among the other masters."
"Would you have just waited until someone made a move on you before you explained that it was my fault you appeared that weak?"
"That would have given me the opportunity to bring the subject up, yes."
"Jesus, Jean-Claude, you've got to stop keeping this much from me."
"I do not know what magic our Jason has over you, but it seems that he is one of the few people who can tell you hard truths and you accept them. You are not even angry."
I thought about it. "I guess I'm not. I think I'm too worried to be angry. Jason told me there's a hint that some of the masters think if they could take me as their human servant, they could be as powerful as you, but control me better. That kind of talk could go really badly since I travel all over the country doing my job. I needed to know that, Jean-Claude."
- Blood Noir, Laurell K. Hamilton
I love this series. Those that follow me on Twitter may have seen my brain melting over the last couple of days as I read the latest in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novels, Bullet. So much charcter growth! So much plot development! The last few books in the series have had some criticisms about being nothing more than supernatural erotica, compared to the supernatural crime/thriller classification they had at the beginning of the series, and hey, I get that. The sex quotient gets ramped up to 11 after book 9 or so, and Bullet has it's fair share, but seriously. I cannot get over the plot development in it. Things I thought would take years in-verse, and books in RL, all happened in the one novel. And believably! So amazing, my gosh.
The first book in the series is called Guilty Pleasures. Go buy/borrow/download it now.
