It's a numbers game

So I am a bit amazed by the disparity in the numbers of cds sold in the first week of release on the Oricon charts. Observe these 2007 releases:

KAT-TUN - Yorokobi no Uta - 300,396 (This is actually their LOWEST figure in 1st week sales, almost 110,000 less than Bokura no Machi de's first week. Real Face started with 754,234, and the numbers for Keep the Faith aren't out yet.).
NewS - Weeeek - 262,715 (Doing better than Hoshi wo Mezashite's first week by almost 20,000)
Hey! Say! JUMP! - 246,826 (WTF)
Kanjani8 - It's My Soul - 193,738
Arashi - Happiness - 192,196 (Wow K8 beat them)
B'Z - Super Love Song - 180,650 (Still going strong!)
L'arc~en~Ciel - Hurry X'mas - 102,593 (Low compared to their other singles for this year, both about 10,000 more)
TegoMass - Kiss ~Kaeri Michi no Love Song - 96,073
V6 - Jasmine - 68,461
Tackey & Tsubasa - Samurai - 57,771
Koda Kumi feat DBSK - Last Angel - 57,310 (NewS creamed her.)
DBSK (Tohoshinki) - Forever Love - 43,434 (amazing considering how strange their japanese sounds)
Gackt - Returner ~Yami no Shuuen~ - 43,275 (Gackt what happened?)
Abingdon School Boys - Nephilim - 27,383
Dir en Grey - Dozing Green - 23,882 (WHAT)
Alice Nine - Tsubasa - 16,646
One OK Rock - Et cetera - 4,129 (...Good luck Taka!)

It's no wonder KT's budget is so huge. It kind of hurts my soul that Hey! Say! JUMP! does better than L'arc. I mean, I know it's a different demographic and all, but still.

Looking up older ones from last year, Yamapi's solo actually was over 400,000 in the first week while Rain's 3rd japanese single was a paltry 8,192.

l'arc en ciel, gackt, je
