Adventures in fandom and other tales

So, I am just tickled by seeing old SPN fans and reconnecting in new fandoms. This is what I love about being part of fandom and how things are connected. Makes me giddy. Plus more people to talk HOCKEY with! All of the good.

DEAR CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS: I've got nothing! I mean, y'all are insane right now! Even with Crow and Seabrooks out of the picture...damn. However, please to be figuring out how to finish the last 20 minutes the way you are playing the first 40 so we don't have to go into overtime and shootouts, huh? Thank you! And I mean, we all knew it was going to be an intense physical game. Vancouver's a good, tough team. It's was intense and gritty and I really loved watching it.

Things that delighted me in the game:

RAY EMERY. He is playing SO well right now. He made some HUGE saves and just keeps the Hawks in the running and GOD the last Shoutout save he made was HOT. ugh.

Kaner - just full stop. He plays so well all over the ice and sees passes so well. It's disgusting really.

Bollig - fighting for Kruger! UGH - He gives me SO MANY feelings. It's really horrible. Also, the way he was talking to Hansen after Hansen's hit on Marian (we'll get to that in a second).

Tazer - Getting right in Hansen's face after he realized Hoss was down. And also yelling at Ref's to WAKE UP! I love that it's his go to line. I love so much about him really. It's horrible.

Marian Hossa - I can not even tell you how much I love his game all around. I mean, such a powerhouse offensively but get's back on the D so quickly and MAKES PLAYS HAPPEN and ugh...his second goal was just so powerful and took such strength and skill. And then the hit. I will not lie - I was in tears when he finally got to his knees and then off the ice. I HATED seeing him down like that. I was not even watching hockey when he got the hit from Torres but I've seen the video and I got SICK TO MY STOMACH. I hope he is okay and recovers quickly.

Now we'll talk about my BB oilers. *sigh* Or I could just sigh and put my head in my hands and quietly weep. THESE GUYS. ugh. To give up that goal so close to the end. Just, guys, GUYS - you are better than this. Khabibulin has huge in that game though. Just HUGE. And really kept the boys in until the very end. Next time boys.

I was super busy these past few days. On Sunday, my Sister and I went to see a play 33 Variations which is about Betthovan's piece 33 Variations on a waltz by Diabelli which was fabulous. Anton Nel was the pianist and he was just magnificent and the whole cast was amazing. The script deals with the music but also follows 4 relationships (mother/daughter, girl/boy, genius/care taker, music/humans) I mean and so many more. It was such a moving piece and we saw it with some of Amy's friends and had some great discussions after about what variations really mean in musical terms and also about Beethovan and the mother/daughter pair and genius.

On Monday I made it up north to Pool with some friends. It was low key but a fun nice way to spend the evening and be "out."

Yesterday I went over to some friends for dinner. They asked me to bring a dessert so I brought these baklava inspired cupcakes. They are delicious and SO easy to make! We watched the Documentary Wagner and Me which is Stephen Fry talking about Wagner and Hitler and the history there and trying to make sense of it for himself. Interesting - plus some glorious music! Then we played Cards Against Humanity and hilarity ensued.

So like I said some whirlwind days but good days! I hope you all are having a wonderful day! xoxo
