“Why did you and Steven break up?” Fernando’s tone is casual, but the question is everything but that. He watches how the Basque flinches a little, a sting of pain visible in his eyes for a moment. Then it’s gone. But the silence stays.
“He really hurt you, didn’t he?” The younger man’s hand strokes Xabi’s sides and stomach gently.
“He… He said that he couldn’t do it anymore, after Lexie was born, he said it was too hard for him and that it ripped him apart, loving two persons at the same time.” Fernando snuggles closer to the other Spaniard’s safe warmth and places a kiss onto his closed eyelid.
“I will never hurt you like that.” Xabi turns to give him a small smile and a soft kiss.
“I know.”
