the joys of grad school

well, after parsing out workhours with Ryan this morning on the way to campus, I think I've figured out why I haven't gotten shit done on my dissertation since passing my exams last spring. it turns out that I spend about 32 hours a week (conservatively) on work completely unrelated to what I'm planning to do for my dissertation. huh. guess that ( Read more... )

Are you done with classes now, anyway? That's what I hate at the moment.

Ah well.

yes, though I'm teaching one, which really doesn't help. it's mostly the two part-time jobs that are the big problem-- I work at least 18 hours a week on those.

Hey there lovely! I'm finding all sorts of W&M people on lj. It's like a reunion. Well, not so much, but it's still nice. : )

Hey Annie! It's me, Jen, your old housemate ^.^
A recent blackout here in the 'burgh prompted me to go re-read the entries pertaining to the weekend-long blackout we spent freezing in Rochester, and I got hit with nostalgia and decided to look you up.

Yes, I have made the transition to Livejournal, finally. And used a copious process of copy-and-paste to import my old Deadjournal entries.

Hi there! Sorry I've taken so long to answer-- most of my online time is spent on World of Warcraft-related stuff. So how's life? I've still got another couple years of work before I finish this PhD and get a real job . . .

Life's pretty good, though definitely busy (in the good sort of way). I've got the wedding this summer to plan for; I'm still temping at CMU and hoping one day to get a full-time job there; I've joined Critters, an online critiquing group for speculative fiction; I'm making more time in my life for writing, and for trying to get published (I hope to send out one, maybe two stories this month); and, just to make sure everything stays CRAZY(!!!), I've started a weekly webcomic, just to fill in any free time I might previously have had :)

There is still a part of me that wishes I were still at school, so I wouldn't be bound to this annoying 9-to-5 schedule :P Oh, well! At least the only homework I have to deal with is the stuff I assign myself.

Drop me an e-mail sometime, and we can catch up more fully :)

Nobody really hears from me on a regular basis unless they see me every couple days (or catch me on World of Warcraft) . . . I've turned into a bit of a virtual hermit-- most of my online time is spent closeted on WoW-related websites like my guild's forum and the WoW realm forums. Heh. I'm a junkie. And my dear husband's not helping, as I've managed to corral him into using it as a relaxation tool too. *grins* All in all, things are going pretty well up here, if a bit ancy due to funding applications (I still need at least one year, preferably two, of funding to finish my dissertation).

How's yourself?
