Ok, so I saw Transcendence and it started a train I thought. Firstly, I have to wonder how many reviewers actually saw the movie and didn't just write the review from previews. All the ones I read stated the tech was the bad guy. At no time was that ever a fact, it was only IMPLIED by the humans. I wanted to hate the movie because humans were portrayed as hideous monsters. Tho I digress, one of the premises of the film was that to "copy Will" to the computer, every thought and memory had to be copied to the processor. I find this a very outdated idea, right up there with the world is flat. Humans still try and make humanity this mystical concept. We are born with a limit, or potential (look at it as you will, cup half full yada yada), just as we are born with our hair color and height. While experiences can shape how we realize our potential, experience will NOT make us who we are. Just as a blind person will probably never see, though there may be a chance with surgical intervention. A Sociopath cannot be created by a bad childhood or cured thru therapy. Until this is widely understood and utilized psychology will stay a pseudo science, quackery if you will.
