Just for a change

I've watched the DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES serie from HERE!, and here're some thoughts about it, by movie and in general.

THIRD MAN OUT

Oh, look! That guy from QUEER AS FOLK! I love him! His character was great. His boyfriend, not so much - bad actor. The plot was interesting, even though it had it's predictable moments.

And the gay detective is fun - and I gotta say, it's kinda nice to see he's manly, but not exactly butch, if you know what I mean. Just cause you're a bit feminine, doesn't mean you can't kick ass! I'll leave butch for Milo Sturgis (anyone knows that one??). Chad Allen is great playing Don like that. And he gets great chemistry with Sebastian Spence's Timmy - even though he's way too cheery and too comical for my taste sometimes. But more about that later.

SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM

Best chemistry between Don and Timmy - the break down was a very powerful moment, even though I'll need fanfiction to fill the blanks, won't I? Timmy seems more human and moved there, and Chad Allen is such a great actor, it actually almost makes me overlook the dumb things Don sometimes pulls out.

Almost! I don't get how Strachey gets to be a good detective with that actitude - he blows his own cover with four different people in less than 48 hours. That's not good, Strachey. But this is my favorite movie of all four, because, while the murder plot was not as good as it could have been, the therapy was very interesting, and it's such relief to see the therapist portrayed as a reasonable person, not a biggot/religious freak as they usually are, it makes the whole thing believable and you can see why these people can be dangerous.

ON THE OTHER HAND, DEATH

Sillyest of all four. The plot was just bad, lack of believeble twists and that ex-boyfriend thing was predictable and silly. The lesbian couple was the only good part, Don and Timmy had one cute moment that was hard to take seriously because you just KNOW the ex will do something stupid sooner or later.

ICE BLUES

Oh, look! That woman from QUEER AS FOLK! And Timmy can't loose control. That's a HUGE problem I have with this character - I think he's a nice person, but he's just way too in control of himself and the way Spence portrays him didn't quite fit this plot because I honestly think he sees this character mostly as comical relief (which is Kenny's job, BTW, and he does it very well) and "just Don's partner", so, when the whole thing went down, I almost expected him to say "I'M FUNNY!! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS MESS?!?!". Also, the sister thing was not very well explored.

What can I say? It had it's moments whenever Don was on screen, but it's hard to take danger seriously when Timmy is there because he is funny and you see he is not taking it seriously enough. Still, much better than the one before.

IN GENERAL

They're fun movies with a couple with good chemistry and some good plots and some bad. Not a classic, but it sure makes me wanna check the books out and want another movie. And for fics, of course, it's not a fandom without fics. ;)

Also, I gotta say, english being my second lenguage, I had some trouble following the plots since the english they speak seemed a bit harder to get, for some reason (maybe accent, maybe content?), so I had to rewind it a couple times. It's wierd, I usually have a good ear for it and it hardly gets in the way of me enjoying my shows, but this time it did, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my judging on the mystery plots. The personal stuff was easy to follow, though.

Well, that's it. Now, I ask you - will there be another movie? Cause I wouldn't mind it at all.
