My carless existence continues with no complaints from me -- Mom let me borrow her car today to pick up groceries, and I have a carton of cigarettes, so there is no need for me to leave my house whatsoever. And that? Is kinda fun. :)
While I was out today, I thought I might drop by the local branch of the library. I haven't had a library card in AGES, but I thought, being that I'm reading more nowadays, it might be fun to go in and browse. Bad idea. It was noisy, it was crowded, and it was full of people checking out DVDs and using the internet and gabbing on their cell phones (in SPITE of the signs, dammit), and I left, disgusted. Because I wanted to go to the LIBRARY, not fucking Blockbuster or the mall. And the selection of books? Sucked. I will try the main branch downtown sometime soon, but as far as the one nearby? Forget it. It sucks. BOO.
The only thing they DID have that I wanted was a copy of John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids, because that's supposed to be a really good end-of-the-world classic and I haven't devoured it yet. Still, it wasn't worth standing in line with a bunch of plastic teenagers renting Degrassi Junior High episodes and comparing cell phone rings to get it.
I am officially an old woman bitching about Those Kids Today, and I just turned twenty-four last week. WOW. I don't even want to imagine me at forty.
