I actually took notes through a few of our DS convos and hoped I was getting the Canadian thing right. It's amazing how much time you can spend doing research and still not get it right, so it's good to hear that it at least sounded right. *laughs*
I loved the rookies. I wanted to write so much more with them, but I didn't want to stray too far from the purpose of the story. I'm really happy the names went over well though. I know we're about the same age, but I wasn't sure the popularity of those shows in Canada at the same time.
Oh yes, I adore Chicago. The Taste of Chicago is out of this world. Expensive as hell, but totally worth it. I'm hoping to finally go up for the Pride Parade next year.
Welsh talking to Dief was a totally last minute thing. I wasn't sure I could pull it off without it sounding totally cheesy. So cheesy or not I'm so happy you liked it. :D
Bush pilot was the only job I thought was crazy enough to interest Ray after being a cop for so long. XD
Honestly I'm just so ecstatic that you liked the story. I know DS really revolves around the two main characters, but I like to think it's a better world with the rest of the cast!
