I should have been taking notes, because I had to stop several times to laugh my head off. Welsh's dry humour kills me, it's just so awesome. Things that had me ROFL:
- Ray breaking in the rookies - Tom & Jerry and Fred & Daphne - For the first time in history, Canada had invaded and apparently taken at least one prisoner as well. (can't stop laughing!) - Carmen Sandiego and Waldo What kind of man wears a white and red striped hat with a red fluffy ball on the end? Kowalski obviously. - the Chicago flavour (I can tell you love it) - the northern Canadian flavour (I can tell you've actually been listening to my blather :D)
I love Welsh talking to Dief. I love bush pilot!Ray (did you know that I used to think that would be an awesome job?). I love Welsh understanding about the Bookman, and Vecchio putting in his concerned two cents about Kowalski needing a Saint Jude medal. I love Ray taking Welsh out in his plane. I love Frannie being a good mom.
I love all the little details you included that paint the bigger picture and convince me I'm in the DS world, not just a tunnel-vision view of a few characters in one specific setting. I love it all! \o/
Okay I'll stop here and squeal more at you live. :D
Tehee! I'm was so grateful for that particular squee comment. I wasn't sure it was as funny as I wanted it to be. I nearly took it out and I'm so happy I didn't. Thanks!!
Just the fact that you laughed more than once is a huge ego stroke. I have to admit even with Mosh's assurances, I was worried it might not quite fit what you were looking for.
I actually took notes through a few of our DS convos and hoped I was getting the Canadian thing right. It's amazing how much time you can spend doing research and still not get it right, so it's good to hear that it at least sounded right. *laughs*
I loved the rookies. I wanted to write so much more with them, but I didn't want to stray too far from the purpose of the story. I'm really happy the names went over well though. I know we're about the same age, but I wasn't sure the popularity of those shows in Canada at the same time.
Oh yes, I adore Chicago. The Taste of Chicago is out of this world. Expensive as hell, but totally worth it. I'm hoping to finally go up for the Pride Parade next year.
Welsh talking to Dief was a totally last minute thing. I wasn't sure I could pull it off without it sounding totally cheesy. So cheesy or not I'm so happy you liked it. :D
Bush pilot was the only job I thought was crazy enough to interest Ray after being a cop for so long. XD
Honestly I'm just so ecstatic that you liked the story. I know DS really revolves around the two main characters, but I like to think it's a better world with the rest of the cast!
