homework or Thoreau?

I just went to an information session about applying to grad schools and feel much better about the whole process. But goddamn. I've got this itch in the back of my brain to take a break from school.

Work for a year while backpacking and being outdoors as much as possible
Live in Germany for a while
Join the Peace corps
Learn a trade
Work and read all the books I've ever wanted to read

We had a great discussion in my anthro class today about sociobiology. We talked about how one theorist sees us as animals trapped by society. I tend to agree. People get stressed out, but only by things that come with living in society like jobs, or applications to grad school, or money, or politics. All of this would be so simplified if we simplified our way of living. I'd love to pull a Thoreau and live in a small house in the wilderness with a few good books and a notebook. I'd love to learn from the environment and nature for a change.

Time to go back into not-reality. Gotta do homework for something that teaches me nothing about how to live or what life is about or why I'm here at all.
