Name suggestions for Jacob and Nessie's grandchildren

Okay, for those who don't know, I am a fanfic writer, who's writing a series (still unnamed and yet to be posted) of stories, based on the Cullen family's lives post Breaking Dawn. For the most part, this series will focus on Jacob and Renesmee, and how they go from being friends to a romantic couple. This is going to be a LONG series, perhaps a ( Read more... )

I can't help but wonder if SM would still have Jacob imprint on Nessie if Nessie were unable to have children?
I know there are fanfic writers who prefer to write AU or AH because they claim there's only so much you can do with canon, but it's so not true, especially if, like me, you're a Jake/Nessie shipper. Throw them having kids into the mix, and it gets more interesting. Just think about it. What would it be like to grow up, knowing there's no one else in the world like you (except maybe your siblings)? Your mother is half human, half vampire, your father is a shape-shifter, and your extended family is a weird mix of humans, vampires, and shape-shifters. If you have any human friends, you can't be as honest with them as you might like, because it's too risky. And to top it off, there's this group of crazy vampires in Italy that would be perfectly happy to eliminate your entire family.
Also, what would a child (or children) who has (or have) human, vampire, and shape-shifter genes be like? Who would they take after?
I don't know why people assume Nessie can't have kids, or that to be able to have them, Jacob must impregnate her before she's mature. Just because she stops aging when she's seven (physically 18-20) doesn't mean she's frozen at that age, at least as far as I'm concerned. Although some will make the argument that if there is no point at which Nessie will go into a form of hybrid menopause, then theoretically, she and Jacob could potentially have dozens, if not hundreds, of offspring, remember this. Human women are born with a certain number of eggs in their ovaries. You cannot produce more, unlike men, who can produce an endless supply of sperm. Even if Nessie were to get pregnant every time she and Jacob had sex, and went on to carry and give birth to that child (highly unlikely), at some point, she's going to run out of eggs. (And really, who wants to read about a Nessie and Jacob who are like the Duggars from Arkansas - constantly adding to their family? Not me, that's for sure.)
I was always going to give their kids normal, somewhat timeless names that, preferably, honor people they care about. Bonus points if they have a nice meaning.

Yes, i did think about that too, but since i don't believe imprinting is only a genetic imperative for reproduction, i always thought the imprint would have happened even if Nessie couldn't have kids. Because they're soulmates.
But at the same time i'm pretty certain Nessie's fertile and not only in the short period right before she stops changing. She has too many similarities with the shapeshifters (24 chromosomes, rapid growth etc.) to not be as fertile as them. I mean Nessie gets "frozen" right in the prime of her life, so it's logic to assume that her fertility stays that way. Also her development is so similar to Leah's and
Leah's only assumption for being infertile was that Sam didn't imprint on her, but that's no proof. So Leah could very easily be fertile and Nessie could be the same.

I don't like when people make Nessie suddenly become overall vampire when she stops aging, like suddenly her human side would completely disappear, they often make her even become venomous which is just ridiculous in my eyes since none of the other female hybrids became venomous after they got frozen.

I think you can do a lot more with canon than people think, you just have to use your imagination. I've read so many incredible canon stories, especially
those of Jacob and Nessie are very imaginative and always so different from each other, because people come up with so many great ideas how their life could turn out. Even more when they add their children and their adventures.

Haha, funny thought, Nessie and Jacob as the "child factory"... i wouldn't want to read such a story either. There are enough ways around it, she could run out of eggs or they could use protection. I've also read a story in which Nessie simply didn't want to have more kids after 4 or 5 because some of them were more human and aged and Nessie couldn't bear to outlive her own children which is very understandable. Maybe they would make one baby every century...

I don't really understand why people assume Leah can't have children, just because she's infertile at the moment. Although, that might be a blessing in disguise. Imagine if Leah could get pregnant while she was still phasing. Would she - or any decent member of either pack - really want to put her unborn baby at risk like that? I'm sure she'll be able to get pregnant once she stops phasing and settles down with the right guy.
Yeah, even Nahuel said he doesn't know if vampires are venomous due to gender or random chance. The weirdest thing I've ever seen was where someone gave Nessie fangs. Like, I assume, traditional vampire fangs. I was like, WTF?
Eh, I'd be wary of birth control, especially with a hybrid and a shape-shifter. I mean, would it even work for them? Nessie's not venomous, so there should be no worry of anything, err, dissolving inside of her. But what about Jacob? Considering that the wolves run at 108.9 degrees, what would happen to a condom at that temperature? (I feel weird writing this.)

I think the same, and it's never been mentioned if Leah could get pregnant while still phasing or if she has even tried after becoming a wolf...i've read a book by Kelly Armstrong once where the character's a werewolf too and she gets pregnant, and the unborn child is somehow protected during the transformation, so that could work for Leah too, or she simply stops phasing as long as she's pregnant.

Yes, that's weird. She does hunt and drinks blood and bites Bella, so she must have some sharp teeth, but not really fangs.

I guess condoms wouldn't be working so well with werewolves, but there are other ways of prevention, and Carlisle's a doctor - i'm sure he could come up with some solution.
