another boring fannish update

Man, I don't even want to check when was the last time I posted something about House (psa: this was the fandom that brought me to LJ way back when!). Anyway, my fannish activities related to this show presently extend to watching it and reading fic by only two authors I know, pwcorgigirl and namasteyoga  (I can recommend anything by the both of them, btw, they're really excellent).

The big news this season is, of course, that House is giving a shot at an actual romantic relationship, and he's doing it with Cuddy. I find the storyline interesting and I like how they're handling it, but I must admit I'm disappointed. Years ago (possibly season two-ish) in an interview Hugh was told about slash (in very broad strokes, as I recall) and was asked what he'd think if the show went in a House/Wilson storyline. He seemed to give it a bit of serious thought, said he'd trust the writes to handle it well and that if Robert was ok with it he'd be game. Ever since I have been harbouring the hope that House would be that series, the one gutsy enough to try and tell that story... and then it wasn't.

Every time I'd see some House/Cuddy looming on the horizon I'd shake my head and talk to the imaginary people on my screen and say things like "run Cuddy, save yourself!! stick with Lucas, he's cute and young and loves you and will make an excellent husband/father, and House is just a giant ball of issues!" Maybe it's not very romantic of me, but I do believe it.

Now that they're there I do like how they're exploring how being in love changes House in lots of little ways but not in fundamentals we could have had this plus a dollop of sexual identity crisis drama damnit, so we'll see how this progresses. As Hugh himself said once about House, "it's like a person standing on the ledge of a tall building: in the end either he jumps or he comes back in, but you can't keep him there forever, the audience will get bored".
