Nice review--I felt the same way--found it tremendously compelling, even if I was a little pissed about the short-circuiting of all the Cas plots, in particular.
Excellent point about this season relying more heavily on symbol than the previous seasons--
boys grow out of their self-destroying codependency (which is where I think the Amulet ended up being, not a symbol of their love and shared experiences, which turns out to be the Impala, their Home, but of their toxic big brother-little brother dynamic, and a tool for clinginess -see Castiel searching for god with it-) and go on to lead separate lives. This? Is a brilliant point--both about what the amulent really turned out to mean, and about where the season really left them, able, finally, to separate

I was weary about season six until I a)realized I wasn't ready to part with SPN, and b) JA said at a con that it's the season he's been most exited about since the beginning, based on what the writers have told him. And, since JA can do no wrong, I am going to imitate him and be exited as well XD.

I forgot to say above just how happy nurse!Dean fic would make me! I kind of see him as psychiatric nurse--the combination of those muscles and nursing skills is hard to come by ;) Oh, the fic that is going to come out of this hiatus!

I thought I was the only one! I've always wanted to see Sam and Dean grow independent of each other, but A LOT of fans can't stand Sam and Dean to be separated AT ALL.
*fist bump of solidarity* I can understand that people want them to only be together, or only happy when they are together, but the outpouring of feeling to that effect after 5.22 was pretty astonishing....
It was, but it didn't surprise me after all those people who said 'Dean better get back with his brother NOW' after Free To Be You and Me. I think that's why they kept Sam and Dean separated for all of one episode; they didn't want to upset those fans. Personally I wish they had kept Sam and Dean apart for at least a couple of episodes. I think their relationship would have been much stronger for it and it had great story telling potential, but than I've never really seen Sam and Dean's co-dependent relationship as a good thing, unlike a lot of people in the fandom.
