Ugh.

They're making a Bridge to Terabithia movie. Talking animals? Terabithia a real place? What?

They're also making a Nancy Drew movie. The mystery of Hollywood Hills? Fourteen-year old? BRUNETTE?!

ONTD has a picture of the movie poster.

These are just wrong on so many levels. If you can't accurately reproduce a book without its magic, don't try! Just don't even do it.

We finally got our tree. It's little, 4'5", but it's perfect. We have the lights and star on it, but we don't have any ornaments hung. I'll do that today and take a picture. I really rather like starting the Christmas celebrating later than the day after Thanksgiving. Ironically, it kind of makes everything seemed slowed down and not as holiday-season busy. Though I have to say, the stores (clerks and shoppers) are out for blood, even when they're buying a tin can of peanuts or a roll of toilet paper. It's ridiculous.

I do have something to say, whether it's something worthwhile I have no idea.

I am a Christian. I celebrate Christmas. I send and receive Christmas cards (well, I forgot this year), I bake Christmas cookies, I sing Christmas carols. I buy Christmas presents, which I wrap with Christmas paper and place underneath the Christmas tree decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments. This is a celebration in which I participate and believe. It is not only pivotal to my beliefs, but it is culturally significant as well. However, I have no objection, none whatsoever, to stores like Walmart, Target, etc. who instruct their employees to say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas." There are many things for which one ought to boycott Walmart. This is most certainly not one of them. While this holiday is important to me, I realize that there are many others for whom it is not even on their radar. There are many other holidays during this season, some of which I observe (Thanksgiving, New Year's), and some of which I do not. That's ok! I like to see Christmas trees displayed in public, I like to see decorations put up along the street lights, but I wouldn't be sad if they added symbols of other beliefs. Why can't the public display both? Why must it be Christmas or nothing? I just don't understand.

movies, faith
