The office hubbub permeates the air-conditioned space. Windows look out onto long, slender fingers, reaching to the sky.
Something screams across the air. Loudly.
Those near the windows murmur excitedly to themsleves for a few moments. Then the floor vibrates noticeably; the fixtures, windows, bookshelves rattle perceptibly.
Another long scream outside, tearing through the air. Murmurs again, louder. More worried, frantic.
Workers, frantically, turn to their phones, computer screens, trying to find out what's happening.
Slam. The floor grinds and vibrates again.
The power flickers, then abruptly goes out.
The first few plaintive drones of sirens echo at a distance, noticeable now -- deathly silence temporarily displaces the noise.
The sky darkens.
People shift listlessly, trying to decide whether to brave the outdoors.
The clouds turn a sickly shade of green.
It begins to rain.
