Yesterday, I had a bike accident; chipped one of my teeth and had to get 6 stitches in my chin. It was a pretty stupid accident. I was turning right on an empty street, not a sharp turn or anything, when my back wheel slipped on some leaves covering a sewer lid. I remember seeing the pavement getting closer and closer and thinking, "Keep your head up. Don't break your glasses." My glasses didn't break, but my chin broke the fall, and when I stood up, blood dripped onto my hand. A group of high school girls were walking by. They were all done up and prissy so I asked them, thinking the answer would be reliable, "am I bleeding really bad?" One girl studied my face, "no." Phew! Then, I felt my tooth with my tongue. It was rough and jagged. I was dripping blood too. So I straightened out my front wheel and rode the mile and a half home. When I went to clean/patch my cuts, I realized that a piece of skin on my chin was just sort of hanging there, disguised by my beard. Joe was really sweet and rode the bus with me down to Howard Hospital.
So now I have hole in my beard where there are 6 stitches, and a chipped tooth and another one that's all scraped up on the front. I'm lucky I didn't break my arm though, or fall in front of a car. I'm going to go for a ride today to try and shrug off some of the fear; should be a little shaky at first but I think I'll be alright.
