Just a little note this time. I found a poster for Cristiani's circus - I think this is around 1954 because there was another poorer one with a date on it - nothing prior to that, and of course my circus career of about 20 minutes was back in 1947 or '48, can't remember.

You were an elephant rider? I remember you said you rode an elephant, but you did it as a job?

Oh heavens no. I did it for the few days the circus was in town, that's all. I had no desire to run away and be with the circus! After being priviledged to be with the family and meet everyone, much as I was excited about the atmosphere and menagerie, I thought it was a pretty awful way to live! In retrospect I'm amazed my parents allowed it - I led a very sheltered life in those days - but as I usually said little to them of any of my activities away from home, they probably didn't know what I'd been up to!
