Okay, let me start by saying that I'm surprised and shocked, but in a good way. Frankie Jean is born, somewhere around Christmas, maybe even a few days earlier. Luckily almost no-one asked me: he, didn't you talk to her on November 5, with your Skype session? Couldn't you tell?
No. I couldn't. And I'm surprised by that as well. Yes, I know, you only see the upper body part of someone with a web cam, but she should have been like 7.5 months. On the other hand, I had a daughter myself and I'm pretty sure that nobody could tell I was pregnant at 7 months when sitting behind a desk...
I am also a little surprised by the fact that she apparently really did not want people to know. It's her decision, I respect that of course. I fully respect her wish or need not to have your personal life all over the place. But I do not really understand.
In my teenage years, I had a girlcrush on a Dutch popstar. She was in a band and world famous 'all over the Netherlands' during her twenties. No time for babies, career came first. When the band stopped, she was 29 and ready for kids. Unfortunately for her, it was also the end of her relation and it took her a few years to find someone else to start a family with. By that time she was 36 and a well-known and respected TV personality. She was asked to host a live cultural event called the 'Uitmarkt'. She entered the spotlights and sang a beautiful song. And what no-one really knew or suspected, was pretty clear at that moment: she was very pregnant.

I thought (and still think) she was the most beautiful pregnant woman ever! And she seemed so confident and proud to show it to the world!
I do have to remark though, that even in the Netherlands, in 1995, this still caused quite some commotion: people felt like you should not 'expose' yourself like that, as a woman. Come on, do we have to hide in a cave until the baby is born then? Secondly, she was not married. So? She was in a stable relationship. And even if she was not and just wanted to be a single mom, then what? I don't see the problem.
As far as I know, B is in a stable relationship. She has the age to have and want children. I think that it would have been possible to work a pregnancy into the series if it hadn't been canceled, the books give enough room for that. The series could have been put on hold for a while even. So why the secrecy? I mean, I adore B, but she's not that big a celebrity (yet) to be stalked by paparazzi all the time, is she?
Call me a hopeless romantic, but I still think that babies are the result of the love people share for one another, and therefore one of the most precious things in the world. In LOTS, they say 'love isn't something to fear'. But I would say it isn't something to hide as well!
