the t.v. is exceedingly loud

i updated friendster yesterday.  i tend to forget all about it until i check the email account i never use and see i have some random birthday reminder or something.  i had an old message from grady (he's currently resides in hawaii), an old highschool chum, and kim in switzerland.  kim scolded me for not contacting her back in march when i was in paris.  i actually tried to get in touch with her to no avail.  c'est la vie.

after investigating the cost of rosetta stone's french program on amazon.com, jake and i happened to come across a link to actually access the language program for free via the phoenix library website.  i just need to update my membership card.  that's pretty much awesome.  perhaps next time i'm in france i'll actually have minimal conversation skills...beyond the 'ou est le toilette?' or 'je voudrais un baguette, s'il vous plait, monsieur.'

it was beautiful outside today.  makes me not want to have to sleep all day and wake up at 1700 for work.  after a week off, thinking of going back and charting/dealing with the near dead, and my coworkers sounds absolutely awful.  i have 3 in a row, so i hope i don't get stuck with difficult patients.  blargh.

at least i got a dollar raise.  $32/hr for a new nurse isn't anything to shake a stick at.

i've been reading a book entitled, 'difficult conversations.'  i suggest it.  i'm a people-pleasing, conflict-avoiding, anxious-type person.  this book has actually helped to improve my interpersonal communication skills at work and with jake.  plus, i like it because it's not one of those tedious, fluffy self-help books.  if you have trouble voicing opinions, standing up for yourself, or try to avoid confrontation (even positive confrontation) it's a good read.

on that note, i'm off to bed.  i think i'll listen to my ocean-loop track on my white noise machine tonight.  i haven't been to the beach in a terribly long time.
