Running down the drain

May 15, 2007 13:31

The Fifth Third Riverbank Run was last Saturday. I had planned to run the 25K, but due to a medical issue I couldn't, so I opted to run the 5K instead.

The doctor has told me that I am not to run alone, so I was able to convince J.T. to run with me. Initially, I'd told him we could walk, but he responded with, "If we're going to be at the race we might as well run." Which was all well and good except for the fact that J.T. hadn't run 3.1 miles before Thursday, the day he got the appropriate shoes and apparel. And then he ran again on Friday just to loosen up.

As a result, he was nice and sore for the race. But he stayed with me, even through my dizzy spell at mile 2.5.

My time wasn't the best; it was almost exactly 2 minutes off my PR (I'm short, I run slow). But we finished and that, in the end, is all that matters.

We stayed downtown for the race and got an unexpected bonus: the local Hispanic Center had a fundraising dinner the night before the race, complete with dancing!! It was lots of fun, the food was really, really delicious, and the band was very good. And J.T. loves it when people ask him if he's a dance instructor!!
