happy thanksgiving!

well that was an ordeal.

on tuesday, i left gainesville at 4:45pm, heading home on the gmg coach bus. around 5:30, we hit some traffic on the turnpike. liz calls me to tell me that she got stuck in it too while going home. apparently a dump truck fell over on the highway, spilling rocks all over the road. go figure. So, we spend almost 3 hours in stop-and-go traffic. I was like, whatever. I've been in bad turnpike traffic before, and there's nothing you can really do. No point in getting all hot about it. But this idiot girl behind me kept calling like every single person in her cell phone, griping about the bad traffic. it was ridiculous. i mean really, we should just be thankful we weren't in the accident. fortunately, i had harry and ron to keep me company. So, for as long as I could tolerate the bad yellowed light above me on the bus, i read all about their adventures in the half-blood prince.

(i finished it yesterday and rather enjoyed it. paced differently than the other 5 books, but i liked it. the last 200 pages or so were fantastic. I kind of got a little emotional at the very end. "dumbledore's man through and through." sigh. I did feel like Book 6 was almost a preface to Book 7. I can't even wait.)

So, any guesses as to what hour i actually arrived home tuesday night?

I'll save you the time. 1:45am. that's right. a quarter to 2 in the morning. 9 hours for a 5 hour drive.

Actually driving to my house from the turnpike service plaza was so weird. that last hurricane totally wrecked my neighborhood, leaving houses all jacked up and the lovely trees once framing our streets destroyed. it seriously looks like no man's land.

and, in another fantastic surprise, i realized that FOUR of my six professors have decided to make my final exams/projects/papers all due the week after next. just wonderful!

but, it is rather good to be home. :)
