Hat Progress

After some discussion and much stuffing about I have finally finished adjusting the wulstehaube pattern Miss D made me.

There are some things I discovered after making and error and then quizzing Miss D to make sure I was on the right track.

First of all when I added the extra width into the headband I added it into the front, thus creating a curve at the front.  Afterwards I realised that perhaps I was meant to add it to the back and the reason it was curved in the hat Miss D made me was because the linen had stretched out of shape over one and a half years, it is actually meant to be a straight line cut on the bias.  I then redrew the pattern and added the curve into the back. Prolem solved, right?

Wrong!

Because I had the increase the length of the straight line at the front and the increased curve at the back, this increased the measurement of the curve, so when I attached it to the circle at the back there were these two large triangles left at the back of my head which meant the hat was to small to get onto my head.  So I increased the size of the circle at the back of the head which left these poofy bits at the top of the had where the band joins the circle.

After yet again questioning Miss D she suggested that perhaps I could insert some pleats as they would most likely be covered by the role anyway, so I did that and it worked, there is only a slight amount of poofness so the cap otherwise fits fine.

I have now attached to role and the shape seems to sit fine, however, I may reposition it tomorrow so sit further back on the cap.  Once I have got the role sorted I will start playing around with bigger sizes.
