Please Pass the Comfort

I miss the chocolate pie at Cowling's on 460 (not the Cowling's in Smithfield -- totally different place). As you may recall, their chocolate pie is tasty. Have not found a suitable replacement for it here in Ohio, yet.

But the quest is on. I am seriously considering Chili Time. If nothing else, they are open until the wee hours, I often crave St. Bernard surroundings for some reason, and this place is my newest source of comfort food. It's been there forever, but I only recently was brave enough to enter. We went there on our way back from the Cincinnati Rollergirls (yes, our date nights are sometimes THAT high-falutin'! Roller derby AND chili!) because nothing else was around or very open. I have been there twice now, but never had room for the pie. So if you get a late-night text or message of some kind from me requesting pie and comfort, that is where I will be.

Ben says maybe I will be disappointed in it. Maybe it won't be Cowlingesque. Well, I told him maybe so -- but that's my own disappointment, not his, and not to worry.

I've been thinking about the last time I required comfort food. Mom and I went to Simone's (since gone, replaced by Seny then Suzy). My brother and I went to UDF. Mom and I went out for ice cream here, too ('cause that's how we roll). My friend took me to Skyline (which she did again, after I moved back and felt terrible). These weren't happy times, but we were well-fed and a little bit comforted.

It's time for comfort food again. My mom is sick. She has surgery Thursday. What will we eat? Anyone up for pie at 3 a.m.?
