Reflections on the Last Year...in Fic

Dec 08, 2006 13:22

So I sat down to the the Year in Fic meme I saw on
kellifer_fic's lj, you know, the copy the first line of the first fic posted from each month.  I decided to ignore all chapters to continuing stories, but that left me with a depressingly small set of fic.  Many months had no fic at all to call their own.  And, looking back, crack!fic has taken up far too much of my mind this past year.  I'm sure there is someone to blame for that.  :)  So I decided to just list all of the fics I completed this year, hoping to feel some sense of accomplishment.

She swept into his life like a small tornado, her exuberance and idealism mingling intimately with his world of order and science, tipping it whimsically off-balance. (Facets, SGA, Elizabeth)

This day had been surreal from the beginning. (Broken Words, SG-1, S/J)

There is a general feeling that SG-1 is invincible. (Unattainable, SG-1, S/J)

“Carter!” Jack exclaimed in surprise, the end of the word rising with what could only be called a squeak. (Proposition, SG-1, S/J)

“What’s going on with you and Jack?” Daniel asks. (Out of Context, SG-1, S/J)

This wasn't how Jack had thought it would turn out.  (Exodus, SG-1, S/J)

Daniel can't explain it. (Unexpected, SG-1/House, Daniel/Allison)

Gosh I miss going off-world! (Space Pirates: Way Cooler than Ninjas, SG-1, Team)

In the harsh light of day, it might look like settling. (Nocturnal, SG-1, Sam/Pete)

The club lights were low, allowing its guests to sink anonymously into the booths lining the walls. (Jack's Spooktastic Adventure, SG-1, S/J)

The Johnnie Walker Red sat untouched inside its striped box. (Plan C, SG-1, S/J)

Not even one stand alone fic for each month.  And I'm beginning to realize that my first lines are not all that interesting. Lol.  There is sill hope that I will get to add one more finished fic to this list before the new year.  *fingers crossed*  Mostly, taking the time to look over the last year, I feel a fierce affection for lj and you, my flisters, most of all.  Maybe it sounds corny, but I feel like I've had so many opportunities to try new things that I would never have had the courage to do in any other environment.  Thank you for squeeing along with me and not taking my bouts of bitchiness too seriously (today's icon, for example :).  Some of you, undoubtedly, will point at the date and remind me that it is a bit too early for this end of the year philosophizing.  Let's just say I'm in the mood.  And I'll probably be a bit inognito for the rest of the month due to various RL factors. (Although I am secretly hoping that I will have to eat my words.)

I have every intention of following this post with a list of my favorite fics this year and why they are so great.
