Birthdays, recs, and fanfic side effects.

Happiest of birthdays to my fellow ship whore binkii822, the lovely
a_loquita, and beanpot, who insures I am never without interesting links, lovely fic, and proof that puppies make all the bad in the world go away. I hope you all have a great day!

While I'm here, how about some fic recs? Not to be missed:

aurora_novarum  wrote Leverage/SG-1 crossover fic! 'Wargames' Didn't Play Out Like This. Hardison gets an unexpected close encounter with Area 52. Just so much fun. Tag to "The Three Days of the Hunter Job"

A Hand to Hold by jedibuttercup  (Eureka, Jack/Tess)
The first Jack/Tess fic I've managed to find, and it's short, but lovely. Tag to "Ship Happens"

Then, lucky us, there is birthday fic that we all get to enjoy!
Dimensionless Quantities by mrspollifax  (SG-1, Sam/Jack, adult)
A beautiful look into what it takes to be the one waiting to see if the other one is going to make it home this time. Tag to SGA's "The Return"

Also, do you ever read a fic that is so detailed and lengthy and well written that you have a hard time not thinking of it when you once again read/watch the original source material? This is normally one of the things I love about fanfic, but this rare time I have major issues with the fic that, while being ambitious and well written and solidly plotted, simply lacks characterization I can believe in, and creates a much darker background plot to the original that sort of undermines it, and throws the main protagonist in bad light. It's a really weird side effect to reading fic, and why i rarely read fanfic for books, I think. Though that's not strictly true, as I have read more published fanfic in the Pride&Prejudice fandom than you would believe. Lol. Anyway, it's just something weird that happened to me this last week. (And it totally was not a fic in any of my usual fandoms, this what I get for straying. ;)

eureka, fic rec: leverage, fic rec: sam/jack, leverage, fic_rec, fic rec: other, fic rec: sg1
