the gift police
Millie's mom said something funny to me today. Mil had her wisdom teeth out yesterday and while she was gone in surgery i used their extra key to put this medley of get well stuff on her bed with balloons and such for when she got home, and today I went over to drop off her sweatshirt and ended up staying for like 5 hrs just chillin and keeping her company. Anyways, her mom got home and was thanking me again for the gift and i was just like oh dont worry about it, it let me go into crafty mode and get all excited! and she said something like "yep, thats anne,' YES! someones finally sick, i get to MAKE STUFF!!' " ahahahhaha and it was so freaking true. I know people are sick or having surgury and i get excited because i get to go all gung ho cute-gifto on them, and i LOVE it. I went shopping for the stuff at toys r us (sh got like an incredible hulk coloring poster and a teething ring and a lttle canadian moose, etc) and on the way home inn traffic i was just on such a high. i started thinking about what it would really be like to serisouly run a business like that. and i have thought about that before, but i just love the idea of it- its like a dream job. instead of doing it for my really close friends (to the point where i am ridiculously shocked that it doesnt completely freak them out :) i would just be able to help people come up with perfect cute stuff thats not ridiculously pricey for, well, anything really. the i took the idea to the unhealthy point and started thinking about what i could call such a place, seeing as i would never want to call it anything like "anne's collection" or something like that. thats kind of small townish sounding - ick. no offense to small towns. plus its not really a collection, its taking little things that other people want and doing it for them. and i have talked about it with cait before i think when i was talking about doing sport stuff, and i came up with etc. you also have to remember that i also think about this from a designer standpoint, marketing and branding and all that. its like the shift_(insert any thing here) ads for toyota. shift_adventure, shift_control, and all that. but from an advertising perspective one could have things like "occasions, ideas, surprises, etc." and could change what u are advertising whenever you wanted, because etc would alway apply to anything, because you can make something or put something together for anything.
meh. i am dreaming. but not the impossible, so i guess i cant call myself totally unhealthy for dreaming it up. and there is not really a market for this anywhere. think about it. there is no shop i know of where you can go and say "i want this, this, and this, in a basket wrapped all cutely for this kind of situation and delivered here" and where you could say "my friend is having this or that happen to her next week, put something together, wrap it cute, and let me pick it up and pay for it." its personalised, not 1800flowers. ahhh the possibilities.
