There used to be an Anne Rice forum waaay back in the early aughts. It started right before the Queen of the Damned movie came out. I joined up and met people from all over the world. It was a bit of a cult. In 2002 or 2003, a few of us met up in New Orleans. (I had to lie to my parents about why I was going because I was still a kid and these were INTERNET people. Ha ha!) Then in late 2007, I went to Europe to meet up with a few others from that same forum -- even though the site had died many, many years earlier.
Am about to meet up with
rebness on my turf. She's going to fly to Denver, and we're going to make a mad dash across the country to New Orleans (city of Louis, Claudia, and Lester -- or Lestat). On the way I hope to show her the wide expanse that is America. The beautiful parts. The broken parts. I haven't told her yet -- Spacky, stop reading here -- that we're going to be involved in a Gulf clean-up project. Nefarious of me. >:D
My Friday Five will be geared towards road trips:
- It's not about the destination. It is about the journey. This took me until a couple years ago to figure out. Normally, I'd be geared up to drive drive drive just to get to the final point, missing everything on the way.
- Years of cross-country travel have trained my bladder to wait until the gas tank is empty. "I could [drive] for miles and miles and miles and miles."
- Roll down the windows. A/C might cool you down, but there's nothing like the wind through your hair when you're driving down a long stretch of highway.
- On that throw-back note: I don't need iPods, DVDs, etc. to be entertained. I need good conversation and visual stimulation.
- Get out of the car and stretch your legs. Run through a cornfield! Take a vineyard tour! Go see the country's highest bridge, smallest horse, 3-legged goat. (lulz)
We're not going to be driving a
sexy car like I did last summer. But we're going to be doing sexy things. And I can't wait to be around other creative people. (More on that in a future post. Right now I want to keep it sekrit!) I'm so going to pick their brains. Looking forward to this holiday, and we'll definitely be posting things from the road. Especially the embarrassing things!!
