I finally completed my entry for the community
1fandom, which (obviously) was about "Queer as Folk US" (the show as a whole). I chose the 9th Theme, and here it is - enjoy!
Fandom: Queer as Folk US
Theme Set: Nine
Rating: G through NC-17
Author Notes: I spent about two years writing this thing, but then I finally found my Muse, and I could post it down and get rid of it!
01. Crave
The first week in rehabilitation, Ted couldn’t even think about drugs; the very word threatened to pull him under in a spiral of cravings and pangs and pain.
02. None
“None of them is really important”, Justin kept telling himself half-heartedly, watching Brian enter the backroom with yet another trick.
03. Glue
Gus merrily blew on the sheet of paper on which he had glued an unsure heart, then he smiled toothily and handed it over to Brian.
04. Wet
Tongues sliding against each other and hands intertwining tightly, hot water all around and a sense of coming home.
05. Fame
Ben knows that, when “Fame” reairs on cable, he'll come back to an empty house and a note that reads, “Waiting for you at Brian's”.
06. Instant
Brian thinks that the most important event of his life should have lasted more than a mere instant, ending and beginning with a crunch.
07. Hold
Justin remembers little of his fishing days: a huge straw hat on his head, the sun lotion on his skin, and his father shouting at him, “When you choose your prey, take a hold of it and don’t let go.”
08. Fish
Laying in his bedroom, Emmett stared at the grey fishes pictured on the wall, and knew that he had to escape that world.
09. Don’t
Years later, Michael wished his mother had told him at fourteen the first rule of the world: don’t fall in love with your best friend.
10. Ego
“Don't you think I have a great butt?” asked Emmett when Drew came home, and Drew rolled his eyed and replied, “That, and a big ego.”
11. Flow
Deb learned when she was sixteen and her brother came out, that going with the flow wasn't always the right thing to do; and next year she paraded through Pride alongside Vic and laughed at the world.
12. Dream
While Brian and Michael are leaving the school parking lot, Justin smiles and thinks that he always makes his dreams come true.
13. Action
Hunter thought that living out in the streets was brave and butch: but the moment he entered Ben and Michael’s threshold he realized he was actually doing something for the first time.
14. Enough
Sometimes Melanie felt it wasn’t enough - the wife, the kids, the job: on those days, she pulled out her bike and felt alive all over again.
15. Green
Once, Michael had been a little envious of Brian’s perfection: then he casually saw something green and purple on his inner arm, and envy turned into fiery protectiveness and first love.
16. Metaphor
Brian’s heart was a mythical room locked away somewhere, protected by an indestructible door; luckily for him, Justin didn’t know that.
17. Teach
His first night out on Liberty Avenue, Justin had been ready to learn all that he could; it turned out, he had to be the one to teach Brian fucking Kinney how to be human.
18. Demand
When they got together after the Ian’s debacle, Brian only had a demand of him: Justin nodded at the request and smiled gratefully.
19. Inspire
Michael was everything for Ben, his muse and inspiration, husband, mate and friend: but first of all, he was the primary reason he woke up everyday and smiled at life.
20. Unrequited
Daphne knew she was in for a long, bittersweet ride when she looked at her best friend and learned what unrequited meant.
21. Classic
Justin thinks he’s used to it: when Brian visits him in New York, they go out to clubs and everyone seeks Brian’s attention, and it’s as time never passed by.
22. Far
Not even the moon could be far enough for Brian and Justin; they would always find a way back to each other, Michael was sure of it.
23. May
Brian had come to hate May: every year Justin seemed to find some stupid excuse to leave him in that same, damned month.
24. Breadth
When his teachers in high school talked about breadth, Michael dreamt about superheroes’ broad shoulder and corded backs; now he looked at Ben and simply smiled.
25. Wrench
Justin thought that leaving Brian would be for the best, but when he arrived at his new home, sitting on the floor in the dark, he bit his lips and tried not to cry.
26. Hope
Brian didn’t like to give out hope to people; except for Michael, he had never received any.
27. Scent
It was the scent Brian missed most of all: without Justin’s cologne on his clothes, on his sheets and, generally, in his home, the loft just wasn’t the same.
28. Pastel
Justin’s first drawing was realized with pastels on a spare sheet of paper: it pictured an imaginary tall stick-man with brown hair and green-brown eyes.
29. Artist
Once upon a time Lindsay dreamed about painting the world yellow, red and blue; then she became a wife and a mother, and really got the meaning of artist.
30. Sorrow
Michael died in the Babylon explosion, and things were never the same again: everyday, every minute, every second, Ben grieved and died a little more waiting to meet him again.
31. Path
Justin found the right path to Brian’s heart: that didn’t mean, however, that he didn’t swerve off it more times than not.
32. Wood
One of Brian’s early memories was of wood: the wood of his bedroom’s door when his father knocked insistently on it; the wood of the church’s benches on which his mother got down to pray for his soul.
33. Acceptance
At the Vic Grassi House opening, Debbie smiled with tears in her eyes and for the first time accepted the finality of Vic’s death.
34. Yet
Justin went away to New York and came back three years later, yet again; not even for a moment had Brian ever doubted it.
35. Shiver
She got it then and there, the difference between her and the other girls: when Melanie touched her for the first time, Lindsay shivered.
36. Hero
Brian Kinney was the living proof that heroes still existed in this world; Rage couldn’t ever compare.
37. Body
Justin could spend infinite hours sketching Brian’s body, it was that perfect.
38. Man
Hunter did it, he found the evidence of Rickert’s guilt and did everything he could to bring it to Brian: when he left the cop’s home he felt like a man for the first time.
39. Pretend
Most of all, Brian hates his parents because they force him to be someone he isn’t and will never be.
40. Curious
Gus was in that phase of growing up when he wanted to explore and know everything, and Brian was more than glad to oblige him.
41. Different
Ted had always felt he was somehow different from the other boys; the first time he got an hard-on watching his best friend undress he knew for sure.
42. Smooth
Ted's path towards gaydom wasn't smooth at all, but he picked up the right friends along the way and that made all the difference in the world.
43. Right
Two weeks after Justin's prom, Debbie surprised Brian by kissing him on the forehead and saying, “Whatever the conseguences, you did well, kid,” and he cried.
44. Damn
“Those damn children would be the death of hers”, Debbie thought wearily every time Michael talked about Mel and Linds’ separation and Brian lowered his eyes at the mere mention of Justin’s name.
45. Desire
Drew licked up his nipples and blew on them, and Emmett arched his back and moaned.
46. Ritual
On winter nights, Lindsay boiled the water while Mel pulled out the mugs, the sugar and the tea leaves, and when the babies were asleep, they sat on the sofa and drank in silence.
47. Color
Black and white were so overrated; Emmett liked better pink, green and orange - and every other color which didn’t remind him of his dead days in Hazelhurst.
48. Visit
Every week-end, Linds watches on as Gus anxiously awaits his father's visit, and she's happy that most of the times, his baby is not disappointed.
49. Belong
They could move up the moon and never come back, and Debbie would always save a seat for them at her usual Sunday dinner: it’s where they belonged.
50. Bully
When he was a little boy, Chris Hobbs had always had his money stolen by older and bigger kids, but one day he became sixteen, stood up taller that any one at school and for the first time wasn't the weak link.
