It's official. We'll do anything for Tidus.

So, as you all probably know from previous journal entries, my sister and I have both been sick for pretty much this whole vacation. This has resulted in us spending practically all our time drinking tea and playing FFX-2 while wrapped up in blankets on her couch. Despite the fact that I've used up all of her kleenex and she still frequently bursts into awful coughing fits, it's actually a really good time.

So what are we doing with all this time? Well, we played through once and were very disappointed with the ending because... well... should I worry about spoilers? I'll put this behind a cut just in case.

Tidus isn't in it! Apparently, the only way you can actually reunite Tidus and Yuna is to get 100% completion of the game.

Now, this was just unacceptable to me and Sarah! We, who are far too obsessed with the above-mentioned person, wanted to actually get this elusive ending. So, with a time limit of about three days, we have been playing to get 100% completion. Perhaps... that was overambitious... ^^; Now it's down to the wire (I leave tomorrow at 3:30) and we are at 97%. Of course, the most annoying 3% of the game are remaining. Welcome to the magical world of marathon playing sessions, taking turns beating annoying and tedious mini-games, and sifting through gamefaqs files that barely qualify as English.

So, it's almost three a.m. and here we are doing sidequests and listening to comedy albums. Strange place to be.

Right now we're in the Via Infinito, the secret dungeon under Bevelle. Oddly reminiscent of that realm in the Onimusha games, it's one of those survival type dungeons (except you can exit to save whenever you want) with 100 levels. It's a very... special place. And by special, I mean hard. And it doesn't help that there's only one FAQ for it, which we can barely decipher. Here's a little sample:

"To beat this fiend, use your Dark Knight's Darkness ability(or other attack
with other dress spheres or this one)and repeat heal/revive with one person
while the other girls too beatdown on him. He will become a Random Encounter
near the end cloisters, but this fiend becomes more easier depending on what
Accessories you use(you'll know soon)."

Isn't that helpful? I like "or other attack with other dress spheres or this one". But I guess we can't complain. It *is* free, after all.

The thing that has made it possible for us to even get halfway through this evil, evil place is the Mascot dressphere. Best. Thing. Ever. Each girl has a different mascot, with different abilities, and different little dolls to attack with. Hmm... I'll describe them more, but I'll put it behind a cut too.

Yuna's mascot is the moogle from the Luca mission, wielding a Moomba (from FF8) doll. Not only is it cute, she is *awesome*. She has tons of useful healing abilities, including the best group cure I've seen (way better than Curaga on the party). Plus the amazing Regenja, which casts Haste and Regen on the whole party. She has singlehandedly made it possible for us to survive many an otherwise ridiculous boss battle.

Paine's mascot is a big ol' tonberry wielding a Cactuar doll. She's got good HP and various status ailment attacks, but nothing too special. The best part about the tonberry is the way it runs. So hilarious.

Rikku's is probably the worst, and it's a cait sith (I think... maybe it's just a cat) with a PuPu (from FF8) doll. Not the best stats, and she just has some elemental attacks and a bunch of stat-reducing spells that will never work on the enemies you want to use them on anyway. Ehn.

But the point is that *all* of them have a ton of HP and MP, awesome stats, and are just generally good. It's almost one of those And The Game Was Never Hard Again kind of things, but... whatever. The battles in this stupid place are hard enough!

So that's what's going on here right now. In twelve hours I'm getting on a plane back to Chicago... it really flew by. I'll miss my sister immensely, and I really wish I could stay longer. :( But, I have tentative plans to bus or take a train here for spring break. I really hope I can do that. It'll be nice to be here and not sick.

On that note, it's my turn in the Via Infinito (and it's not just a clever name. ugh). Bye for now!
