Hello, New Fandom
When Bruce hands Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to Thor, it's just a way to keep the big guy happy until the Helicarrier gets them back home, a way to keep him from trying to help the button-pushers on the bridge again. When Tony yanks the book out of Thor's hand and replaces it with a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, Bruce rolls his eyes and lets it go, but still steers Thor into a chair. The Asgardian shrugs, willing to try this strange Midgardian epic, and opens the book. Tony grins, and pulls out his phone.

When they get back to the house, Pepper smiles and points in the direction of Thor's room. Curious, Thor opens the door, still half-buried in the book, and tilts his head slightly. Clint peeks around him and slaps the demi-god on the back. "Looks like you got the whole set!" Thor smiles, and returns to the sitting room long enough to thank Tony, and then goes back to his room. When Clint peeks in again that night, wondering why Thor missed dinner, he shakes his head and steps into the room. He stacks the books on the bedside table, marking the place where Thor's cheek is pressed in the middle of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and pulls a blanket over his comrade. He turns out the light on his way out, and closes the door.

It's only JARVIS' intervention by alerting Steve that keeps the house from burning down two days later, because Thor gets so distracted by the Time-Turner adventure that he forgets he has a pan on the stove. When he staggers out of the smoke-filled kitchen, still clutching the fire extinguisher, Steve tries to be angry at Thor, but he falters when the Asgardian looks up, eyes filled with joy, and says, "Sirius escaped, Captain! Justice has been preserved!"

The next day Coulson arrives at the house, on a mission to explain to Thor that mission reports are not meant for talking about books. Directed by Natasha, he knocks on Thor's door. There's no answer, so he knocks a little harder. A muffled voice tells him to enter the "chambers", and he does as he's told. There's no sign of Thor, but there's a warrior-sized lump under the blankets that, when uncovered, shows Thor huddled around the last few pages of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, eyes a little fearful. Coulson sighs, nose wrinkling slightly, and leaves the room without his redone paperwork. He stops for a few words with Natasha, and she gets out of her chair. A few minutes later, Thor is loudly protesting on his way to the shower. Natasha smiles smugly over her armful of books as she walks past Coulson.

It's two days before Thor earns his book privileges back, but a day after that happens Tony wakes up at four in the morning to find a tearful Thor crouched by his bed. "Jesus fucking Christ!" Tony swears, leaning away. "Thor! What's wrong?"

He expects to hear about supervillains, or tragedies, but instead, Thor's lip trembles. Suddenly Tony's wrapped in a strong hug, leaning awkwardly off of the bed, as Thor whimpers, "Why did Sirius have to die?" It takes Tony's sleepy mind a few minutes to work it out, but when he realizes Thor is talking about the books, he sighs and returns the hug. He would rather go to a thousand board meetings than admit it, but Tony cried a little bit at that part too.

It's a quiet, rainy day when Thor finishes Half-Blood Prince. He's silent as he drops the book on the floor, though his eyes are a little red and wet, but when Pepper walks in with sandwiches, he puts the seventh book back down without opening it. He's quiet as the others chatter over their (unbelievably delicious) sandwiches, but eventually Bruce asks Thor what's up. Thor sniffles mightily and puts his sandwich back on his plate, half-finished. "Dumbledore," he says, voice shaking. Steve frowns, looking confused, and Natasha barely blinks, but Clint winces, Tony sighs, Bruce nods in sympathy, and Pepper gets up to give Thor a little hug. After a moment, Thor sniffles again and picks his sandwich back up. No one presses the issue. It's the sort of loss you give a man a little while to deal with.

Thor doesn't read Deathly Hallows as quickly as he read the first six books. He gets up every once in a while and goes to the gym. The others are pretty sure the big guy goes through more punching bags than Steve while he's reading that book. But eventually, the day comes. Thor gets to the Battle of Hogwarts. They can tell this (well, Steve can't, but that's because he's only on the third book) because Thor is huddled in the nice chair (Natasha lets it slide), eyes wide, with the page inches from his nose. When Pepper tries to call him for dinner, Thor barely blinks, and they end up leaving a plate of food next to him.

The next morning, Clint sighs as he drags a blanket across Thor's sleeping form yet again. The chair can't be comfortable to sleep in, but the bookmark is at the very end of the book, and Thor finally looks peaceful. Clint tries and fails to stop his lips twitching into a smile as he walks into the kitchen, carrying the now-empty plate. Tony pushes a mug of coffee across the counter to him, and Clint nods in thanks, picking it up as he sets the plate down next to the sink. Tony points across the kitchen, and Clint grins when he turns to look.

There's a stack of Harry Potter Blu-rays on the table.
