I had a hella afternoon. Around 11:45 a.m., my husband fell down the stairs in our house, fortunately coming to rest on the landing rather than at the bottom (which enabled him to unlock the front door). He was able to call 911 and was taken to UW Hospital in Madison. ER docs determined that he dislocated his right knee pretty badly. They were able to "reduce" the dislocation (put the knee back where it belongs) but also discovered that he had no pulse (aka no circulation) in his right foot. The ER docs decided he needed surgery because it's very bad to have no blood flow to your feet. Surgery started around 6 p.m. The surgeons did a CAT scan to determine whether any arteries were damaged and how badly; from there they had to decide the extent and type of surgery he needs. The surgery was expected to take a minimum of 2 hrs. As of 10:15 p.m. Lee is still in surgery and (at 9 pm) I've been told he'd doing fine. The docs told me Lee will be at UWH at least 3-4 days; after that, they don't know - he might need rehab to be able to walk on it again.
I am planning to spend the night at the hospital. Many thanks to
aenodia, who happened to be in town and having lunch with me when I got the call, for taking me to the hospital today.
