SNOW BOUND

Dec 09, 2009 10:51

Supposedly we got 16.8 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. Most activities within 100 miles of me seems to be shut down (according to the internets and TV): schools, local governments, even my employer (state govt.) is mostly shut down except for hospitals and emergency/police staff. I had planned to be home today anyway, as my street always gets plowed really late and it looks like there's 18 inches of snow in our driveway (or at least on top of Mr. Annearchy's truck, which is parked very close to the house and garage) so I would need XC skis or snow shoes to get to the bus stop 3 blocks away - except the metro bus company has canceled service today (probably remembering Feb. 08 when so many buses got stuck on the hills around here). I'm very glad our furnace is still working and we've got food in the house. Apparently the electricity went off briefly at some point during the night. Mr. Annearchy told his 3 part-time employees to stay home today, and Swen's school was canceled, so today is sort of like a Saturday, except I can't do any errands.

Anyway, in the spirit of being snow bound, here is one of my favorite old cartoons: Tweety and Sylvester in Snow Business.

People in the path of the storm, how are things in your area?
