Mixed-bag Monday

1. First of all, some happy stuff: Happy birthday to the lovely and talented sweet_lemmon and the uberfabulous suzanne_taylor!! I hope both of you have a fantastic day.

2. From the Department of FUBAR: Don't you just hate it when you go to an appointment (say, at a doctor's office), and arrive 20 minutes early (by your own reckoning), then are told you're 10 minutes late, then go to the waiting room and sit there for 45 minutes and NEVER get called to see the doctor, then check with the reception desk and are told, "Oh, your appointment is actually 3 days from now." And the worst part is, you know you checked the handwritten appointment card, which specifically states, "Monday, November 16, 11 a.m." GRRRRR. Then you have to cancel the 3-days-from-now appointment because you've scheduled other stuff that day that really can't be rescheduled, and reschedule the first appointment 2 weeks out. UGH. So there goes 3 hours that I could have been at work and 2 hours my DD could have been at school. Yeah, mistakes happen; I just wish they would happen to someone other than me. I swear I'm going to bring that appointment card back to the doctor's office in 2 weeks so they can see I'm not crazy (well, at least not about that specific thing).

3. On the upside, again, it's Sitcom!Monday, made even better by being Sweeps Month. For me that means CBS's Monday night lineup of How I Met Your Mother, Accidentally on Purpose (what can I say? I'm a sucker for both Jenna Elfman and Jon Foster), Two and a Half Men (which has grown on me lately) and The Big Bang Theory. At 9:00 I'll probably watch a new ep of Cake Boss; I'd rather watch Buddy make an amazing cake than David Caruso looking ominously over his sunglasses on CSI: Miami.

4. On the downside, there was no David Cook concert for me last Wednesday. It really burned me that he and his band, The Anthemic, were only 75 miles east of me, but given that my pay's been cut (8 furlough days this fiscal year and next) and Mr. A's business is in the toilet right now, and that we've got unexpected bills up the wazoo, I couldn't justify the cost of the tickets ($44 each with the handling fee), plus gas, plus parking, plus food etc. One of the few things we're conservative about is money, and this seemed like something I needed to pass on. Besides, had I actually bought the tickets, DD's bout of swine flu would not have been done by Wednesday so I would have missed the concert anyway. So, yeah, universe told me "No David Cook concert for you!" At least not now. Maybe next summer when he promotes his yet-to-be recorded second album? I hope.

wtf, big bang theory, lj: birthdays, himym, david cook, doctor
