Mr. Annearchy and I just watched
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it. I don't want to say too much about it so I'll just say it's a riveting drama about an 8-year-old boy who moves from Berlin to the Polish countryside with his Nazi SS father, mother and older sister, and ends up befriending a boy his age who is captive in a nearby concentration camp.
The ending was tragic and horrifying, and I found myself crying. I know my DD wants to see this movie, and it happened to arrive just as she was leaving for summer camp, but I think I'll wait awhile before I put it back in our Netflix queue; I should watch it with her, but I don't want to see it again quite so soon. The writing and acting are very good, IMO, and the boys who are ostensibly the leads (Bruno, SS-man's son, and Shmuel, the boy in the striped pajamas) are wonderful, especially considering how many scenes they're in.
