Last night and today

1. Last night was the first performance of the play that Darling Daughter's been rehearsing in her 2-week summer drama camp. The play was Blame It on the Wolf, by Douglas Love. The camp is only two weeks long, four hours a day (1-5 p.m.) and the first two days are "getting to know you/bonding", auditions and getting measured for costumes, so they didn't even start rehearsals until day 3 at least. Well, DD missed day 3 (last Wednesday) due to being able to sleep at all the night before then falling asleep at 11 a.m. but Mr. Annearchy went and talked with the director (yay, him!) and she already knew DD from last year and was willing to keep her in the troupe. So DD ended up with six days of rehearsal (7/23-24 and 7/27-30). This play is only 18 minutes long, and DD had three small roles - the Woodsman (father of Hansel and Gretel), a juror in the Wolf's trial, and one of the Three Bears (of the Three Bears and A Truck moving company, which meant she popped on and off stage several times to move the prop "houses" e.g. the witch's gingerbread house and the Three Little Pigs' "brick" house). The play itself was about half the length of last year's play (My Emperor's New Clothes, which was written by the guy who wrote THE NERD) and wasn't nearly as well written or funny, IMO. But the kids enjoyed it and Mr. A and I had fun watching her last night. Then this morning they repeated the performance for their main audience, a couple hundred kids from nearby K-5 summer camps. As I had to chauffeur her to and from that, I watched today's performance too then hung around and read a book while the kids struck the set and did their final shoutouts to each other and about 40 group hugs. Afterward DD and I went out for lunch and ended up at a little madre y padre Mexican restaurant, which she loved. Unfortunately she wasn't able to sleep last night either, so she was running on adrenalin this morning, and the minute she got home today, she zonked out. She was supposed to get up for dinner around 6:45 but I wasn't able to wake her. I sort of hope she will sleep through the night until 5 or 6 a.m.

2. I had to run an errand after I brought her home, so I got back around 1:45 and proceeded to waste most of the afternoon catching up on Facebook and playing Bejeweled Blast (the 1-minute version). I think I've discovered a limit on how much a person can play this game, i.e. so much that I couldn't see straight for awhile and got a horrible headache, though maybe that was partly a sinus attack, IDEK. For dinner I made dirty rice (thank you, Zatarain's reduced sodium mix) and steamed farmer's market sweet corn - but I felt so crappy I ate only about 1/3 of the corn and a few tablespoons of dirty rice. This was a little after 7 p.m. I excused myself and went to lie down for awhile. Well, I didn't wake up until almost 10:30....

3. I see that Daniel Radcliffe will be on Letterman next Monday. I might actually watch, even though I haven't seen HBP yet and am not sure if/whether I will. *shrugs* Nobody in my house seems interested in HP movies anymore. We suck :P
