Yesterday I took DD and her BFF (CH) to
Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells. DD asked to go there, with CH, instead of having a birthday party. Let me tell you, a party probably would have been less expensive AND less tiring. We got there a little before 10:30 a.m. and stayed until about 5:20 p.m., so it was a long day. In the morning the girls went on several
rides, really just the roller coasters, including Zeus and Hades (DD's favorite) while I wandered around the park, which is really, really big. The roller coasters are set on top of a high, steep hill, at the entrance to the theme park, just beyond the parking lot, and you find yourself walking under parts of the coaster framing to get into the rest of the park. DD's favorite ride, Hades, has a huge vertical drop, then plunges the riders underground; they ride through a tunnel under the parking lot and come out I don't know where but then they whip back around to where they started. I have to say that almost all of the food and beverages are insanely overpriced. They don't allow carry-ins so I had to pay $2.50 for a 16-oz bottle of watger, and the girls paid $3 for their bottles of soda pop. The only food place that wasn't a ripoff was the place that sold Starbucks coffee; they had some pre-made sandwiches for about $4-$5 that were pretty good. After lunch we went to the smallish indoor theme park (this is how Mt. Olympus can bill itself as a year-round park, snort) where I went on my only rollercoaster ride of the day; it was a Wild-Mouse type ride that took 2 full minutes and while it wasn't high, it was scary enough for this old person. (Yes, I screamed. That's the point of going on a rollercoaster, y/y?)
The weather was sort of iffy in the morning, overcast and sprinkling lightly, but after lunch it cleared up and was warm, so we went swimming, sort of. None of us were interested in the water slides so we went to the giant wave pool (shown on the park home page) and the girls stood about half-way forward so that they really got swept along by the waves. I stayed pretty far back, so the water was only up to my knees, but even then the "surf" pushed up to my waist. We wanted to go on something called the Lazy River in the indoor water park, but you needed a figure-8 innertube to ride down the "river" and it seemed like no one would give up their tubes; they would finish the river, climb out ad immediately haul their tube up the stairs to the water slide again. GRRRR. That was so rude. Anyway, long story short, the girls went in tubes on an outdoor "river" (the River Troy) and I read The Amber Spyglass for while. We got ice cream (expensive but we got a lot for the money) on the way out of the park, and DD and CH also went back on Zeus a couple times AND DD went on Hades again. So by the time we left Mt. Olympus it was 5:20. We made one stop of the way home, at a rest stop, and by the time we dropped CH at her house and came home it was 6:20. We had left the house at 9:10 so it was a very long day. I'm surprised how tired I still am. I mean, I went on only one ride, but we did a lot of walking and those hills were murder. I'm still tired. and I'm also sore (damn fibro!) Fortunately I don't have anything too strenuous on my schedule today. Have a great day, everyone!
