Last work day before the holidays

1. Gah, I am soooo glad I'll be on vacation starting at 4:30 p.m. today. This week has been very crazy at work. The air quality in the Midwest is lousy, especially where I live. We had a RED air quality advisory yesterday (through noon today) for 6 counties (including mine), meaning the air quality was expected to be unhealthy for everyone, and an ORANGE advisory for 44 counties, meaning air quality was bad for sensitive groups of people (kids, elderly, asthmatics, etc.) A lot of the nuts and bolts of this stuff is part of my job, so I've been too busy with this stuff, to the point of hardly having time to do other work. We're going to call another air quality advisory very soon for the next 24 hours, but for a lot fewer counties. I hope. Then on Saturday night we're supposed to get another 3-6 inches of snow, probably the heavy wet crap. Our dead snowblower is still in the shop, still awaiting a new belt to make it work. IS IT SPRING YET?!

2. I've finished all my Christmas shopping (wheee!) but still have a lot of presents to wrap for my immediate family. (Note to family - Go to bed earlier, dammit, so I can wrap them!) The gifts that had to be mailed were sent out in the last 7-10 days so I hope they reach everyone by Christmas eve. And I wrote the last Christmas cards last night. Still have no Christmas tree, but I don't even care. Maybe I'll buy a new artificial one after Christmas. DD says she has problems with the scent of evergreens, so I guess she's allergic to terpenes, which are the volatile organic compounds that generate that distinctive smell.

3. Online "awards": The KEITHIES! Keith Olbermann and staff's 1st Annual Best of the Stuff We Found on the Internets Award. There's some great stuff here.

rl: work, online: awards, holidays: christmas
