Birthdays and weekendy stuff
1. First a movie review of sorts. Mr. Annearchy and I went to see American Gangster last night. I have to say it's very well-made: great production values, excellent direction, and really terrific acting by pretty the entire, very large cast. It's fast-paced and very dramatic. Let it also be known that I adore Denzel Washington and would probably sit and watch him sell paint on TV. I've also developed a fondness for Russell Crowe; he's starred in the last 2 movies I've seen, AG and 3:10 to Yuma, playing quite opposite characters and he's been brilliant in both. He's not just a (somewhat beefy) pretty face; he's an excellent actor, and I even thought his Nawth Joisey accent was convincing. Still, I don't think I'll ever watch American Gangster again. Denzel was just such a totally amoral character, and even Russell's character had a lot of problems. Basically this is a relentlessly unpleasant film about a bunch of people you probably wouldn't want to know in real life, or at least I wouldn't. But it's still well-made; I just can't say it was enjoyable. *sigh* OTOH I can see it spawning fanfiction too. It's full of complex relationships, which is always good fodder for what-if scenarios.

Heather, I've had a great time RPing with you the past year, first with your Roger, Luna and Draco at SHH and now with your Harry and Greg at RAR. Thanks for making Roger come alive and for giving us a Harry who is struggling to figure things out now that he'd actually got a life to live:) *glomps*

3. Otherwise a pretty quiet weekend. And I did remember to FALL BACK last night; now I'm sure I'll be freaked out when the sun sets less than 2 hours from now. Friday night I was so tired I fell asleep face down on my pillow, fully dressed, at 10:30 p.m., woke up at 1:50 a.m., used the bathroom, changed into my nightgown and slept until 8 a.m. I think that was a signal I really need to get considerably more sleep. Tonight I'm going to try to go to bed at 10:30. *crosses fingers*
