1. Mr. Annearchy and M went to a used-book sale at the big uni library here at 10:30 today, so while they were gone I exercised at Curves. That was fine, but when I left at 11:40, I wanted to browse at the nearby Salvation Army store. I was shocked to find a big sign "OUT OF BUSINESS, Employees Only" on the front door. Hmmm. That's a bummer. I bought a lot of stuff there, including some of my current clothing.
2. M and I were supposed to have lunch at noon with
ladybluestar and her 3 kids, who were in town visiting her parents. We were supposed to meet them at the McDonald's not far from our house. I got there first and while I was waiting for her, Mr. Annearchy called to say that his car died not far from the book sale and could I please come and pick up him and M and the 100 lb. of books they'd bought? So I called
ladybluestar on her cell and cancelled our lunch, because I knew she wanted to take her kids to a movie at 2:15 and I didn't want her waiting at McD's for up to an hour while I retrieved my family from downtown/campus and returned to the far east side of the city. So I picked up M and Mr. A, dropped him off where the dead car was parked (while he waited for Mobil Auto Club to help him), drove with M and ended up going to McD's anyway for lunch (by now it was almost 1:00 p.m.). We walked into the playland and who was there but
ladybluestar, her dad and her two boys, who were being naughty and not coming down from the "rocket ship" in the Playland maze. Well, finally they came down after much beseeching. I think I talked to her for 5 minutes. Waaah. I was looking forward to a nice long chat. Waah. Next time.
3. Oh, and while I was waiting from #2 to happen, some dude in his mid-40s in a NASCAR hat came up to me with a sob story about how his wife was sitting in their van, over there, and his daughter was hit by a car and his wallet was somewhere else and he needed $12 to get back to Wisconsin Rapids (which is like 150 miles from here). And maybe I shouldn't have been a good Samaritan, but I gave him $11.50 which was really all I had (except for a $5 bill I kept for myself). Whatever. I hope he actually used the $11.50 to buy gas to drive home.
4. Well, at least we had a nice dinner. Mr. A usually cooks on Saturday nights, but he was too tired and said he wanted to try a restaurant called Mexicali Rose, about a mile from the house. We'd never been there and I'm happy to say we had a good experience. No drinking occurred (OMG the margarita glasses were as big as a cantaloupe!) but the food was quite good. I cut my "Mayan burrito" in half as it arrived and kept the second half for lunch on Monday. The three of us shared some fabulous fried ice cream for dessert. I recommend this restaurant. It seems pricey but you get a lot of food, and the service was very good. There was one weirdish young man bussing dishes; M called him "Afro-dude" because he was a little Casper Milquetoastish white teenager with an Afro about 6 inches high. Strange.
