Just five random things I'm thinking about.
1. Yesterday afternoon on the way home, I had to stop to put gasoline in my car. I noticed right before I got to the gas station that my odometer read 52525. That tickled my fancy. I thought, maybe this is a double palindrome -- it reads the same forwards, backwards and upside-down.
2. Rush Limbaugh is still an asshat. So he thinks politicians are exploiting Michael J. Fox? I've got a two-word reply: Terri Schiavo. Whatever MJF is doing, he's in control of what's going on, unlike poor Ms. Schiavo, who was a pawn. MJF has also endorsed and appeared in ads for Senator Arlen Spector, Republican of Pennsylvania. So he's not a shill for Democratic candidates; he's exercising his right to campaign for people who agree with his views. *gives Rush the middle finger*
3. Last night we were watching Letterman and the musical guest was a neo-soul singer named John Legend. As his band played the intro to the song, I told Mr. Annearchy, "It sounds like he's covering
STORMY" (a 60s song by the Classics IV). But it turned out the song wasn't Stormy; it was something called
Save Room (for my Love). We were both a bit shocked by how much of Stormy appeared to be in this song. Back in the 1980s, I bet the Classics IV would have sued John Legend (or whoever wrote the song) for plagiarism; now I guess the defense would be "We're just sampling it". George Harrison would be rolling in his grave, if he hadn't been cremated (he was cremated, right,
apolla or
beatles4ever?)
4. We also watched THE NINE last night, for the first time. I thought it was pretty good. I missed the first few episodes, so I don't know what went on earlier, but I liked that they were doing flashbacks from the bank robbery. But I don't really know the characters yet so I'm not sure if I'm watching someone having PTSD (maybe Tim Daly's character) or just the way the writers are doling out the backstory of what happened during the robbery. Anyway...it was a lot better than watching whatever was on the History Channel (our usual default in case we don't like everything else).
5. Another pimp for
stoatshead_hill: I guess the moderators are still casting, though most of the remaining parts are relatively minor roles. However, in RPGs, your characters are what you make of them. I remember in one of my old RPGs,
by_the_lake, the folks who played Ernie Macmillan and Pansy Parkinson (neither of whom has anything approaching 20 lines in the first 6 HP books) were probably the most active players. Go figure :) So really...just because a character isn't very visible in the HP books or movies doesn't mean that you can't make him or her a lot more visible in the game. That's the beauty of RPGs and fan fiction.
