Oh man, I am totally wiped out right now. I think it's partly the weather, and partly having so many people over/being so busy.
Theo and I went to the Francophone Centre's parent & child drop in this morning, which was great. They have a fantastic space, lots of toys, and they give the kids snacks. And it's free! Anyway, the woman who runs it is French from France and is fairly strict. Like, she will tell you off for speaking English or leaving your bag on the floor or putting the toys away in the wrong spot. I had the following conversation with her this morning:
Francophone Centre Woman: There's a community meal on Friday, you and Theo should come! It's a great way to meet people.
Anne: Is it because of St. Catherine's Day???
FCW: Uh, no. I actually forgot that Friday was St. Catherine's Day.
A: I love St. Catherine's Day!
FCW: Really? In France it's the day we make unmarried women over the age of 25 wear funny hats, and then shame them for still being single.
A: IN CANADA WE MAKE CANDY.
Fun fact: my sister Catherine, whose birthday is November 24th, is actually named after St. Catherine's Day. It was great for her when we were growing up, because at school they would make a really big deal out of her on the 25th. They would make her a crown to wear, and generally treat her like royalty all day. Plus, you know, we got to make taffy (la tire ste-catherine). So that was awesome. Maybe I'll make some tire this weekend.
