NEKO CASE.
Drove to Athens last night to see Neko Case at the 40 Watt. I had never been there before but it's a pretty small little joint, so I knew it would be a good show. I met up with extemporangle, which was great because while I would have gone by myself, it was awesome to have a familiar face and someone to talk about Jump with. lol. I can't help it! They were the obvious thing to talk about.
ANYWAY she nabbed a spot in the front row just slightly to Neko's left. The opening band, Y La Bamba, was really cool -- hipstery and quirky with a dose of Latin music (I think the lead singer was Mexican since she had a Frida Kahlo tattoo? IDK). They were from Portland, which is basically a bigger Athens, as is my understanding ;) So nice to have a good opening band.
Neko is exquisite, y'all. Just perfect. I can't even. Her voice sounds exactly like the recordings and she was lovely to watch. So amazing when she sang "What will make you believe me??" from "This Tornado Loves You" (a song I associate with my OTP cough cough).
I was tired and felt weird driving home, under the full moon and in a great deal of darkness, and at one point I saw a small group of deer at the side of the road which, even though they were calm, shook me up a bit. I'm really afraid of hitting a deer. Then when I got home, my cat was acting out and she learned she could get on top of the kitchen cabinets. SIGH.
