kirsch (a short fic)

May 16, 2011 18:36

I initially wrote this last night just on a light whim, recalling the story in Parachute Infantry about the bottle of kirsch, but today I've been obsessed with this song and it's lent this a darker cast (even if the song is about Judas and Jesus and even if it doesn't totally fit....)

You lead me on with those innocent eyes ( Read more... )

I am a MASSIVE nerd! :D :D :D

The hard part with croakvegas is stopping with just ONE part.

D'you want me to be all stern, and say, "Now, ONLY read 'The Epically Fucked-Up Love of Liebgott and Webster' and then off to bed with you!" Cuz I totally can. Actually, I think I just did.

You know, I'm pretty sure there's not a Webgott comm out there, or I'd point you to it. So far as I know, the comms fort_benning and upatregiment have gone inactive, but I haven't checked in at either place in a long time; I don't recall if there was ever a "Camp Mackall" comm.

And Liebgott and Webster are so problematic - if you get a writer who doesn't like one or the other, or who concentrates on only one aspect (say, the fighting), you may not have a satisfactory experience, if that's not what you're looking for. I'm glad you've got some favorites already, because I am all but useless when it comes to Webgott writers! I know that HJ Bender (who is a wonderful writer) did a great fic about Webster's death and the afterlife (I can find the link if you want), and the closest I've come is a post-war fic called "Channels of Information" - but the highlight is on Liebgott trying to find out what's happened to a missing Webster.

It's good to have you back, darlin'!!! *HUGS*

Edited to add: Actually, I think raquel_el_pillo does some Webgott, and if she does, you are in for a SERIOUS treat.

LOL I read the croakvegas Webgott and was laughing so hard I almost started drooling. IDEK

Yeah, exactly.

I am super-curious now; might as well link me ;D I did go and take a look at HJ Bender's fanfic archive but didn't really see that. IDK, I'm tired.

Oooh excellent. I glanced at her tag and I've got to check her stuff out when I have time to devote to it.

I went on a Webgott bender a few weeks ago and asemic and teaspoonery are standouts for me. (memories) If that gives you an idea. I can go from angst to humor with them but what I don't really like that much is the flat-out abusive stuff, basically for the reasons croakvegas gives. I know that gets some people off but it just seems almost like "the easy way out" to me. It doesn't cover the complexities of their characters.

So much for bedtime! profcricket May 18 2011, 03:09:59 UTC
Well, as long as I'm torturing you with links, here's the Rec Week that skew's been running every six months or so. You'll have to go through it entry by entry, but you'll find plenty of Webgott. http://camp-toccoa.livejournal.com/tag/!recommendations%20week

OK, it turns out that HJ's fic was over at FFNet, AKA The Pit of Voles: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6045868/1/The_Greatest_Mystery_of_All

Most of Raq's stuff is Winnix, but I think the Collegiate Series (at the bottom of the BoB list) covers damn near everyone: http://raquel-el-pillo.livejournal.com/20224.html

Early emphasis on pre-slash Winters/Nixon figuring one another out, though.

teaspoonery is still writing, thank the Gods; her journal is, I think, semi-friends only, but she's nice, and so far as I know has not tossed knives at anyone asking to friend her. I don't think asemic is writing for BoB anymore, which sucks; she may have just moved to another comm, though.

Yeah, I really don't care for flat-out abuse, either; that was a HUGE problem in my first OL fandom, Remus/Sirius. I started saying that my Online Virginity Test (later re-named the Online MarySue Test) was whether they just crammed Sirius into the role of the Bad Boyfriend and made Remus - you know, a WEREWOLF AND A WIZARD (BAMF!), a helpless victim. But, yeah - I like stories with complex characters. I think andrealyn has some good Webgott (I want to say "A Love Like the Sea" and "Scream, Shout, then Jump Down the Stairs" - or something like that - are hers. But she's from the First Times, so you have probably found her fic already.)

bluewoodensea also writes SpeirsGott, which is exactly what it sounds like. An unusual pairing, to be sure, but I'm fond of it if for no other reason than she delighted in my nickname of "Most Sociopathic OTP" and let me make a badge for it. :D

I'm getting ready for work so this will be a cursory reply.

Yeah, I've friended teaspoonery but asemic doesn't seem to be around much. Too bad!

OH andrealyn!!! I love her Webgott, it's so sweet. Is that the right word? Lol. But I love her. Can't believe I forgot to mention her. But she's on the list in terms of how I like to see them.

OMG Remus/Sirius abuse!? What a disservice to the characters. And now I'm seeing parallels between Webgott and Remus/Sirius x_x

Tea is sweet (no pun intended); I think you'll get along nicely with her! She's been feeling down lately, and I think a commission request might perk her up immensely. :)

I don't think either asemic or andrealyn is around much anymore, alas. Unless they're hiding under other names (one never knows).

There ARE odd parallels with Remus/Sirius and Webgott, when you think about it, aren't there? Maybe a few more with Winnix and R/S, but still...

Yeah, there was a writer in the R/S fandom (which just EXPLODED today on my yahoo list - over whether criticizing book 7 constituted "disrespecting" JKR, and I thought: really? Four years on? REALLY?) - but, yeah, whenever that writer posted, I always freaking avoided her stories, because they were invariably about Sirius abusing Remus in some way. She had commented on a fic or two of mine and figured I "owed" her, so demanded to know why I hadn't commented.

I, being a fucking idiot, TOLD her.

Her next story was a sex story, because, she said, I (meaning me) like those. And I was like, yeah, but not hate sex or rape. Jesus.

She then told me I was childish and naive for being "romantic" and, much to my relief, defriended me. One of my friends from those days (oddly enough, named Nyx) loves to tease me by occasionally saying, "Hey, Cricket - remember the hate-sex-on-a-desk-fic that you're not sophisticated enough to appreciate?"

I hope you don't mind, but I've been looking at your journal again, and remembering that yes, you are every bit as cool as I remember. I miss you even more now! Stay in the fandom this time!!!! (Maybe we can lure Lora back, too...)

I'm getting along well with teaspoonery as we speak ;)

Andrealyn is usually really busy with traveling for work but I know she's got a big Webgott AU work going on.

Thanks for welcoming me back :D
