Vision of the Seas - Royal Caribbean Cruise Day 1

Aug 04, 2014 22:12

Overnight, it stormed and stormed quite loudly. The lighting was very vivid. There were a number of times I woke to the storm. We got up and had a very nice breakfast in the hotel (Comfort Suites). We took the shuttle offered by the hotel to the port. We were early, just as I wanted to be and moved through the line fairly quickly. We got on the ship right before it started to rain. It was light at first and then picked up and then slacked off and on for a bit. Our rooms were not ready of course since it was barely noon. So, mom and I headed to the Windjammer for a bite to eat. We met some of the waiters in there. Effram, one of the waiters took this picture of me. It was still a bit rainy out as you can see from the window but it was still relaxing on the ship even then.

Very nice men who were really helpful. The announcement was made that the rooms would be ready about 1pm. We hung out on the pool deck a little while. It was rainy off and on. We finally decided to head to the room. The Windjammer is on deck 9 at the back of the ship, while our room was on deck 2 forward. I have never been on the lowest deck before. It was a different feeling. So, we found our room and our attendant was just finishing up. He said we could go on in. He later introduced himself to us, Ryan was his name, from the Caribbean somewhere. We got settled,  unpacked and I took pictures of the room and out the window.

After we freshened up I decided I was going to have my hair colored. So, I went up to the spa on Deck 9 (aft) and made an appointment for 4:30. We wandered about the ship and then made it to our Muster drill on Deck 4 (open boat deck). Luckily we didn't have to put our preservers on. I had to do that once. Afterward, we went back to the spa and as we pulled out from the port I was having my hair colored. It's a smaller ship and despite being on deck 9, it shook quite a bit. I had nice conversation with the hairdresser, who was from South Africa (but as white and me). It's occupied by Britain. So, as I waited for my hair, mom and I watched Ft. Lauderdale drift away from the back of the ship. I had blonde streaks, so I had my natural color back and ended up having a Keratin treatment done. This treatment takes out 95% of frizz. I was hesitant to do it at first but I am SO GLAD I did!

After my hair appointment we went back to the room and started to prepare for dinner.

Mom and I had a table to ourselves but a nice couple honeymooning from Cypress was next to us. We struck up a conversation with them. Each of us ended up knocking over the pepper container at some point in the dinner. It was quite funny. After dinner we went to The Welcome Aboard Production show in the Masquerade Theater.

We knew tomorrow was another travel or cruising day so we wandered a bit and then went back to the room to clean up and get some rest.
