Well, today I turned another year older. The birthday wishes started coming in late last night and early this morning on Facebook. I got a text from my good friend Dan Carsey. Sheila sent me a private message on Facebook. I thought that was odd but ok.
Jason and I have been talking a lot lately and I had mentioned what I wanted, since he rarely ever gets me anything. He did wish me a happy birthday and we talked all day off and on.
We drove up to the Marblehead Lighthouse. One of my favorite places. Terry drove and I took care of Sugar. Dave had to work so I did not have to put up with him today. WOOT!!! :)
We took a picnic and grabbed a table there at the park. To my surprise they had tours today so as an added extra bonus I got to climb it today too! It's a $2 donation that goes to the lighthouse and the upkeep. The Ohio Coastguard along with the National Park Service maintains the light. They have switched it to an LED light now. Just a few quick facts about my favorite lighthouse.
The light was built in 1821 out of the local marble from the quarries there in town. It's the oldest continuous working lighthouse on the lakes.
Ok, so moving on. We waited for our time slot, 1:40 to climb it. We walked around the coastline with Sugar and enjoyed the day. Thought it was a bit gloomy it was a nice day. The lake was very choppy. Terry and I climbed to the top. Dad took care of Sugar for me (well mom too).
It was, as to be expected, windy at the top of the light. But a beautiful view, gloomy or not. It had been a while since Terry had climbed it, same as me. She asked about the monument over across the lake. It was the Perry Monument on Perry's Island. We couldn't see mom, dad, Sugar or Lahny because they were sitting under the trees on the rocks. I even got a shot of Cedar Point from the top.
I don't mind heights, so maybe it was the wind, but I did feel just a bit "afraid" for lack of a better word. Nothing major. I truly think it was the wind.
After we finished the climb we ate our lunch/snack. Mom and I had made chipped ham sandwiches. I fed Sugar and she got attention from others and also the other dogs around too. After we ate and took some more pictures we headed into town. It was nearing 3:30 or so and some of the places were getting close to closing. We made it into the Schoolhouse Gallery and to our surprise we found our Huckleberry jam!! Mom had to borrow some money from dad to get it. She was short a few dollars. They have nice womens clothes, hats, scarves etc in there too. I found a t-shirt I like too. I so want it. It had the lighthouse on it.
From there we headed on down to Port Clinton to Cheeshaven. I didn't go in. I took care of Sugar. Mom said they had raised their prices from last year quite considerably.
Here is the pictures I took at my flickr site.
