Well, today was my first official day of vacation for my last week of the 4 I have. Friday morning I bought mom and i tickets to the NKOTB concert. Originally we were going to do the Dublin Irish Festival and Gaelic Storm but then i remembered NKTOB was in town at the Schottenstein Center (Value City Arena). I could have gotten better seats but it would have taken everything I had in the Chase account so I went for the moderate ones. Section 234 off to the right of the stage. The stage was in the middle. There was a back stage but most of the time they were in the middle stage. The Package Tour also included Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees.
Let me back up though. Today was the Grandview Garage Sales. Annoying as usual. Terry and Dave came out and set up. We all put a little something out. They made a decent amount of money. I got a few dollars too.
Mom, Sugar and I walked around a bit. On our way back to get dad, we saw some friends from work. Sharon, her husband Mick, Kris and Tracy. Almost at the same time I saw Stephanie, Rob and their daughter Shelby. So we came back to the house, mom and dad went back around to get a mirror and I sat out with Terry, Dave and Sugar for a bit.
I got some needed Vitamin D (aka sun) and then took my shower. Mom and I headed I headed down to Columbus. We stopped at a Wendy close to Dublin. Wow what a modern Wendys. lol.
We got to the Schott and parked. Who do I see when we get out and walk up to the door area? My supervisor, Christa. I avoided her at all costs. I'll be damned if I didn't see her again when we were inside and headed for the escalators. I straight up ignored and looked else where. I did not want to see or talk to her. So, we moved on and found our way to the seats. I got us a water and we waited for the concert to start.
I give props to the promoters and the NKOTB. It started on time and didn't mince words/time. It introduced the acts and BAM they were there. No long wait time or over hype. Boyz II Men was great. It never fails i cry when they sing It's So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday. When it came out there was a few deaths in our school (Slick and then Carl Dorsey) and it always reminded me of that time and school in general.
Next up was 98 Degrees. They seemed to have less time than Boyz II Men. I don't know as many of their songs as I should either. Nick is a great singer though. They were great and I enjoyed them.
There was about a 10-15 minute intermission between 98 Degrees and NKOTB. Mom and I went to the bathroom really quick.
When it started they had Donnie saying a "promise" for us all to say. It reminded me of the "Dusty Destroyers" pledge that Chuck D created for the Power Stack Pack.
It goes like this.
I DO HEREBY PLEDGE TO SPEND THE NEXT TWO HOURS HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE.
I WILL LEAVE ALL THE DRAMA, ALL MY WORRIES AND ALL MY FEARS BEHIND ME.
I PROMISE TO CELEBRATE TONIGHT LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW.
FOR THIS IS MY NIGHT!
I WORKED FOR HARD FOR THIS NIGHT.
I EARNED THIS NIGHT.
I DESERVE THIS NIGHT!
AND TOGETHER...
WE OWN TONIGHT!
NOW LET'S GET THIS DAMN THING STARTED!
Then it was the guys singing We Own Tonight off their new 10 Album.
It's one of the, if not THE best concert I've seen in a while. It was fan interactive, fun and spontaneous. Donnie is ever the leader and showman. Danny did some breakdancing. Jordan sang his heart out, took off his shirt while singing a Prince song. Donnie took his off as well. Joe sang Faith right before Jordan took off his shirt during his song. Joe's son Griffin came out and helped the guys since Tonight. He's such a cutie!! He wasn't shy or anything. That was such a treat to see Joe's son. They went into the crowd (Even Jon though he did not stay as long - crowds give him panic attacks sometimes) and interacted with the floor seats. They had platforms they stood on during good portions of the concert and a rotating platform too. Jordan and Donnie took the cameras and took video of the crowd. Jordan got Joe on the circulating platform (his bum lol). the stage manager, who was from Westerville came out and sang Mony Mony with them and Boyz II Men and 98 Degreed came out too. It was the first time all tour that all parties were on the stage at the same time. They played The OSU marching band song and the whole place erupted into singing it and Donnie kept shouting OH-! of course we responded with I-O!!
It was a great night and one I won't forget for sometime. Such a great time. It was a great early birthday present to myself! :)
