going to hell/ go fly a kite

Apr 25, 2009 13:01

i'm about to go out with henry to give his kite a try fly. yesterday and today it's in the 70s; wednesday, we woke to snow on the ground.

a cool thing: a where's george?er came into the store to meet me - she has a summer cottage. if you don't know wheregeorge.com, it's a minor obsession of mine. fun money geekery.

thursday we went to have chicken barbecue at a local church. good food, good company a 90-year-old man who remembers my father from high school in perry (though daddy was 7 years older). and i got told i'm going to hell. two men got into a discussion of congress condemning torture (hypocrites, they knew what was happening), minorities & majorities (the majority should rule), We Know What's Right, and That Governor Patterson, I Wrote Him About This Gay Marriage Thing, and I finally spoke up and told them if they were going to keep having that discussion, I was going to tell them they were both wrong. one left, the other argues with me, finally telling me that i (and family) are going to hell. i told him that, if it existed, i'm sure i'll enjoy it. nice witnessing! (as i wish i'd said.)

everyone else at the dinner, i must say, was quite nice and refrained from telling me i'm going to hell, whatever they might think.
